In a new video commentary for last week’s episode of The Clone Wars, supervising director Dave Filoni explains how Darth Revan and Darth Bane almost appeared in “Ghosts of Morits”. The ancient Sith Lords were to be an evil influence to the Son. The character models for Bane and Revan were created, and the scene was created, but it never made it into the final episode. Filoni explains what happened:
We designed them. They are in The Clone Wars style. We modeled them in The Clone Wars style, and we shot the scene in the episode. The scene exists. But it never made it into animation, it only existed in layout. I was very apprehensive of this scene, as cool as it was, because the implication of it. Which is that, these Sith Lords could separate themselves from the Force, and somehow talk to the Son.
George watches it, and he loved it, it was great. But eventually, I got a call from George. And he said, you know, I’ve been really thinking about this, and we should really take that scene out, with the Sith Lords.
You can watch the entire commentary here, which includes images of The Clone Wars models of Bane and Revan.
Would you have liked to see the scene, or are you glad that it was removed? We may see more of Revan and Bane in the special features of the Season 3 DVD.

Austin, good story. I posted some screen caps of the character models at Lightsaber Rattling http://bit.ly/f66ZK6

Not just in the Season 3 extras, but I have a feeling that they’ll use them in future episodes. It takes a lot of time and money to make a character model, and as such they may not want to throw them away without even being used.
As for them actually being used, I’m on the fence. In the capacity of a ghost of a Sith Lord, they can’t go much wrong with Bane. We know his theology, George knows his theology – he did create him, after all – so there wouldn’t be much problem in the way with him being out of Character. As for Revan being in the role of a Sith, I feel somewhat unsure of that. He did, after all, turn back to the Light side. But, of course, he could have later turned back to the Light side. Trailers from TOR hint at such a thing, or at least that’s how I saw it. Could this fact, that he was to be used as a Sith Lord, be an indication that he did? LucasFilm would have insider information, after all. But if he didn’t? Then that would be a pretty big faux pas in my book.
Huh. Interesting.
