Extra, Extra! Read all about it (on Facebook!)

Lots of Expanded Universe news came out of the Star Wars Books Facebook page this week.  Let's do a round-up, shall we? The godfather of the EU, Timothy Zahn, participated in a Facebook chat on Wednesday.  Questions ran from the mundane (how did you feel about Mara Jade's death) to the thought-provoking (an observation about Nuso Esva being Thrawn's personal Moriarty and just how close the two names are).  Regarding his next Star Wars project, Zahn stated:
No new SW books officially contracted for at the moment, but Shelly and I have one in mind that I'll probably be starting the end of this year.
To which I state, hooray!!! However, for those of you hoping for a Skywalker family novel, this is not the project you're looking for:
There is a possibility of a Luke/Mara/Ben story set before Legacy, but again there's nothing firm on that yet.
For those of us who wanted the Smuggler novel:
I've thought off and on about doing the Lando/Mara adventure mentioned in the Hand of Thrawn. I'll add it to the list of ideas to pitch to Del Rey someday.
Well, it won't be what we're getting in 2013, but at least it's a possibility somewhere down the line!   Still, I'm really looking forward to hearing what this new project is about (and crossing my fingers for some Luke/Mara goodness, just because.) In other news, it was announced that Jeff Grubb's novel Scourge will take place in 19 ABY.  This intrigues me on many levels: is this before or after the Pellaeon-Gavrisom Treaty was signed in Vision of the Future?  Also, since this novel features a new Jedi Master named Mander Zuma, I wonder if we'll see any of the Yavin IV Academy, or if we'll get some retconning regarding when Mander was at the Academy.  Could he be one of the mystery students in Luke's first Praxeum class of twelve?  (It's also very interesting to me considering I always had the impression that Luke was the only Master at this time - he's referred to as "The Master" in Union.  Also, I don't think we had any one-on-one Master-Apprentice relationships pre-VotF, if you go by the conversation Luke and Mara have on Nirauan.)  Needless to say, I'm very interested to see exactly how this book fits in with the timeline and what we know of the Jedi Order at that time. Shadow Games, the upcoming novel by Michael Reaves and Maya Kaathryn Bonhoff, got its third mini-excerpt.
Dash folded his arms. “It’s time to come clean, little miss Star Bright. It’s not that this guy likes you too much—it’s that this guy really doesn’t like you. And I’m not real happy myself,” he added. “I don’t like flying backward and blind through an asteroid field, I don’t like facing a rancor with one hand tied behind me, and I don’t like this.”
The novel will be released in paperback and ebook formats on November 29, 2011.  Dash Rendar fans, rejoice! And for those impatiently waiting for James Luceno's long-anticipated novel, Darth Plagueis, you'll have to wait another two weeks to get your feet wet with Sithly goodness.  The novel has been pushed back to January 10, 2012.
