LucasArts and Spike TV are partnering to announce the “next big Star Wars game franchise” at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), scheduled to take place in Los Angeles during the first week of June.
For some time now, fans have been wondering what LucasArts has had up its sleeve. Two high-profile Star Wars games have been released in the last year, but both were developed by third-party studios. Star Wars: The Old Republic and Kinect Star Wars each catered to specific markets: MMO players and Kinect for Xbox 360 owners, respectively. It’s been quite some time since Star Wars fans have had a major game franchise to get excited about.
Fans will get their first glimpse at the game on Thursday, May 31 during GameTrailers TV (GTTV). The full details, however, will be revealed on Monday, June 4 at 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT on Spike TV. The game’s creative director will be on hand to unveil actual gameplay footage and answer fan questions in real-time.
“I am blown away by both the caliber of the team on this project and their bold vision for this new ‘Star Wars’ title,” said Geoff Keighley, Host and Executive Producer, Spike TV’s “E3 All Access Live” special. “I can’t wait to introduce our viewers to this game and show off the footage that left my jaw on the floor when I first saw it.”

I wonder what it could be? It says a new franchise, so it can’t be a hoped for sequel like Republic Commando 2 or Battlefront 3, can it? Is something post-ROTJ too much to ask for?
As I noted in my other article, “the phrase “next big franchise” seems to rule out sequels to popular games like The Force Unleashed, Battlefront, Republic Command, and Knights of the Old Republic. It also implies that the franchise will be something important, rather than a spinoff of The Clone Wars or some other standalone title or straight-to-portable-system game.”
I have to agree that post-ROTJ would be a great choice. Whatever it is, it has to be able to support an entire franchise of games while drawing in fans who might not know as much about the EU.
Post ROTJ is definitely lacking in the game department. I hope it is post ROTJ. I’ve had enough with the clone Wars era… way too filled up with only about 3 years on eu timeline.
I agree post ROTJ would be amazing but I’d be happy even with a re telling of the Shadows of the empire story, I think Dash made a great anti-hero for a video game
