The fugitives, Daegen Lok and the Force Hound Xesh have fled to the industrial planet of Nox.  Lok is recruiting some of his former traitorous allies to help him in his cause.  The Je’daii are in pursuit using Shae Koda’s connection to Xesh to track them.  Meanwhile the Je’daii Masters are trying to find out more about the invading aliens, the Rakata.

That is the heart of both the best things about this issue and the drawbacks.  The issue doesn’t move the series along very much, but it

Dawn of the Jedi – Prisoner of Bogan #4

does a lot to fill in the backstory.  We get hints of so much else that has already happened before, civil war, the beginning of the Rakatan Empire, the infinity gate and so much more.  I would love to have at least a few issues to put our current story on hold and go back and explore all of that.  I feel like we are missing so much and that the writer’s are being forced to cram in all of this backstory into 22 pages.

With all that being said, what we do get is a good issue.  A lot of action, chases build to fights, a duel leads to a giant monster attack, and 2 former allies face off as enemies.  This is the great swashbuckling action and excitement we expect from Star Wars, and this issue delivers on it.

However, the final pages of this issue do feel a bit more Star Trek than Star Wars.  We do get an insight into why the Rakata are so evil and why they are to be feared.  We haven’t seen much of them since the very first issue so it’s helpful to reintroduce them.

Out of this whole series my favorite part has to be Xesh and Shae’s relationship.  It’s clear that they have a connection but it’s the kind of connection that will have them trying to kill each other one moment and want to kiss each other the next.

Next month’s final issue has a lot of story threads to wrap up.  I do hope that we get another Dawn of the Jedi series after this.
