The Ewoks have noticed a new creature on the forest moon of Endor they call home.  This enemy is even more dangerous than the Duloks, they are known as the Skull Ones.  We know them as the Empire.

Ewoks: Shadows of Endor

As the title suggests this an entirely Ewok centric story, and it’s a fun story.  Those who enjoyed the short lived Ewoks cartoon or the Ewoks movies will find a lot to enjoy here.  Writer and artist Zack Giallongo has really done his homework on the Ewoks pulling in from all over their appearances and tying it all in to the Empire’s appearance and establishment on Endor.

The story itself is a good all ages story.  While it does feel intended for the younger Star Wars fans it doesn’t feel dumbed down.

It all begins with the Ewoks seeing an explosion in the forest.  They quickly realize that things are changing quickly on Endor when an injured Dulok comes to them warning of a new dangerous threat that he calls the Skull Ones.  The Empire has enslaved and captured many of the Duloks and it’s only a matter of time before they discover the Ewoks.  The Ewoks are initially skeptical but Wicket and Princess Kneesaa sneak out to investigate.

It all becomes very apparent that the Empire is more than anyone on Endor can handle by themselves.  The Ewoks quest to save themselves and their home from the new threat leads them to the Nightsister Charal and the mythical beast the Griagh.  The Ewoks and the Duloks must learn how to get along with each other first before they can save their homes.

The story has all of the great marks of a classic Star Wars story.  Witches, creatures big and small, a technologically superior enemy, sacrifices, and the discovery of the power within yourself.  The artwork and story are simplistic but not in a negative way, more of a Saturday morning style.

This would be a good book for anyone who misses sharing The Clone Wars with the younger Star Wars fans in their life.
