Fans of Darth Maul and The Clone Wars will be excited to learn that even though the show has been canceled, the end of Darth Maul’s story will be revealed in a new miniseries from Dark Horse Comics, Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir. Newsarama announced the comic today and has an interview with its author, Jeremy Barlow.
The four-part series will be based on the screenplays for the unproduced arc, which would have taken place after Season 6 of The Clone Wars. Maul will be working with Mother Talzin of the Nightsisters, continuing his attempts to get revenge against his former master, Darth Sidious. Be sure to check out the Newsarama interview for more details.
There is one detail that Newsarama got wrong however. Their article says that this Maul arc was intended to be the series finale of The Clone Wars, but it’s just Maul’s finale. While the episodes would have taken place near the end of the series, they wouldn’t have been the arc that closed the show out, as seen in these tweets from Lucasfilm’s Pablo Hidalgo, and LucasBooks’ Jennifer Heddle.
The Maul comic is very cool, but it *wasn't* the series finale. It was a 4-part arc that fell beyond what was already in production.

If there's still confusion: the new Dark Horse miniseries only deals with a Darth Maul arc from near end of the series. Not a series finale!

Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir will begin this May.
