Ania Solo has been kidnapped by Ramid, a mysterious man from her past, but there are more out in the galaxy after our young heroine. Ramid’s ship was shot down and crash landed on a backwater planet. Now the bounty hunter who took down Ramid’s ship is trying to collect on Ania, dead or alive.
The bounty hunter means business, but she has underestimated Ania. Like the other Solos before her, Ania is not one to be stopped no matter how much the odds appear to be stacked against her. It says a lot about her that she tends to the injured Ramid before she tries to save herself. She still cares for him even though he did try to kidnap her.
Meanwhile, Ania’s friends and shipmates are trying to track down where she has been taken, or if she has run off with Ramid. Jao Assam, the former Imperial Knight is skeptical about Ania’s motivations. He is clearly conflicted between caring for Ania and the accusations against her. Ramid’s sudden appearance and Ania’s reaction to him are not helping him think clearly about her.
More and more people are starting to question the accusations against Ania, but she doesn’t seem very forth coming about what really happened. We also have another faceless bounty hunter who seems to be more than just a hired gun, but the only clue to identity we get is a set of lips.
The mystery deepens in this issue. Bechko and Hardman’s script ups the tension here by not giving us any easy answers. There are a lot of questions, but not many answers. It’s frustrating, but in the good way that makes you want to read the next issue right away. We are teased with answers but never really get any.
Bechko and Hardman continue to give us classic Star Wars swashbuckling action and cliffhanger dangers. Ania runs from one danger into another. This continues to be one of my favorite Star Wars books right now, a very original story but with the classic Star Wars feel to it.
