It’s hard to believe but things have actually gotten worse for Ania Solo. As if being wanted for murder of an Imperial Knight, kidnapped by an ex-boyfriend and then being hunted by a vicious bounty hunter wasn’t enough, she is now marooned on a planet where it rains glass and acid. Things have not really been going her way recently.
It’s not all bad for our young heroine though. Ania has been reunited with her ex-boyfriend-partner-convict-whatever, Ramid. But they are still trapped out in the open with no shelter on a planet that rains glass and acid.
Meanwhile, on Coruscant, Imperial Knight Yalta Val is doing his own investigation into Ania’s past and alleged crimes. Things are not adding up, something else is at work here. More and more signs point to Ania’s innocence. We do get some more of Ania’s backstory and some small hints as to why she has been named the galaxy’s most wanted.
The unnamed bounty hunter has been taken care of, at least for now. Like most bounty hunters, they are a difficult lot to kill, and you shouldn’t count them out until you see a body. It feels like there is more to her going after Ania than just a simple bounty contract. Much like her famous great-great-grandfather’s relationship with bounty hunters like Boba Fett and Dengar, it feels personal. At the very least I’d like to know who this unnamed assailant is under the mask.
There are many mysteries still, but it does feel like we are starting to get answers, even if we don’t fully understand the questions yet. There is a connecting thread between all these mysteries, is it the Force at work, or is it just a part of a larger conspiracy that remains to be seen.
Bechko and Hardman continue to put out a fantastic Star Wars story. It really feels like they not only understand the elements that make for an exciting action adventure tale, but the special recipe that goes into making Star Wars. This is one of my most anticipated books every month.
