Han Solo and Princess Leia are attempting to escape from the Imperial fleet with the reluctant help of Han’s estranged wife, Sana Solo.  While on the other side of the galaxy, Luke has been captured by Grakkus the Hutt and is being forced to fight to the death in the Hutt’s arena.

The book opens with a bang, literally, as Sana tries to lead them away from the Imperial fleet.  In between blasting TIEs we start to get hints of the story behind Han and Sana.  No major revelations just yet, but enough to start piecing together some of what happened.  Han continues to say it was nothing, but Sana believes more happened, and Leia is merely stuck in the middle.

On Nar Shaddaa, Chewbacca and C-3PO have been sent to find Luke and save him from whatever trouble he has gotten himself into.  Chewie and Threepio’s interactions are fun, and Jason Aaron has a lot of fun with this unique pairing in one of the most dangerous places in the galaxy.

Luke has been forced to fight in Grakkus’ arena for his amusement.  However, to make for a good show, Grakkus wants to make sure that Luke is in proper fighting shape, so he’s been assigned a mysterious person to train him how to fight.  He is introduced to us only as the Gamemaster, and his face is hidden by a hood.  I have a feeling that he will be someone of importance, otherwise it really makes no sense to go so far to obscure his identity.

This issue is mostly a setup as we build towards the finale of the arc.  It’s necessary to move all the pieces into position, but it left me wanting more from the story.  The final page left me with a huge grin on my face though, it’s a small moment but was a standout point in the issue.  There is a lot to enjoy here, but it feels like we are just waiting for something bigger to come.
