Since 2004, Obsidian Entertainment, the creative studio behind Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords has stated their interest in created a third game in series. When Bioware and Lucasarts announced their MMO The Old Republic, fans figured they would have to settle with that being “Kotor 3, 4,5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.”
Well, that’s not exactly true; not if Obsidian’s CEO Feargus Urquhart has his way with things. In an interview recently with GameBanshee, Urquhart replied to being asked if he thought there would ever be a “true” Kotor III by saying,
“I don’t really know. A part of me hopes that there will be, because I think we can do things in the more single player story based RPGs that you just can’t do in an MMORPG. Like I said, I really hope that there is one, with BioWare busy on the MMO; I hope LucasArts gives us a shot at making KotOR III.“
Not a surprise there, really. Obsidian and Lucasarts both have acknowledge faults in timing for Kotor II, and many think, if time had been given, both could have made Kotor II better and more complete.

The MMORPG & the single-user RPG don’t need to be clashig, the SW universe is big enough for everybody.
Plus the MMORPG format may discourage some (including me) for I’m not always online. If I could play disconnected on my laptop it would be a big plus.
I think Obsidian should get a shot but put safegards to prevent another “sub par” experience.
I’d pay top $ for Kotor 3.
Or better yet, give them another time period to use that same game engine in. Let them make a NJO rpg, or a Clone Wars RPG. It wouldn’t be that hard. And if Obsidian owns the technology then they might as well use it.
Kotor II wasn’t awful, it just tried too hard. I think with the right writers Obsidian should be given another change.
Then again if Bioware wants to make another SW RPG with Drew Karyshan, then I’d prefer that.
I would love to see KOTOR III, but I really do not see a real chance for the game given the fact that it could potentially cannibalize SWTOR sales.
SWTOR was well received at E3. Why should LucasArts launch a product competes with SWTOR?
Don’t get me wrong: I would love to see a KOTOR III release. I do not find the time to play an MMORPG. But I just don’t see this happening soon…
So lets hope then that SWTOR will be a failure
TOR and KOTOR3 could both exist simultaneously. The latter could still be made if the former is a success. In fact, if TOR is a big enough hit, KOTOR3 could be made to complement it and expand The Old Republic universe.
