New Jedi Order
(Twenty-five years
after the battle of
Yavin and beyond)

As this era begins Luke Skywalker
had unified the Jedi Order into a
cohesive group of powerful Jedi
Knights.  It was a time of relative
peace, yet darkness approached on
the horizon.  Now, Skywalker’s de-
scendants face new and resurgent
threats to the galaxy, and to the
balance of the Force.

The events of this story take place
approximately twenty-five years
after the Battle of Yavin.

REFUGEES Part 2 of 5

The planet Artorias has been overrun by the Yuuzhan Vong. Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master and head of a new Jedi Order, arrived in time to evacuate some of the civilians—but not all.

The royal family has been split up.  Prince Finn has departed the planet on an evacuation ship with Skywalker and thou-sands of Artorian refugees.  King Caled has stayed on Artorias along with a group of freedom fighters.  Caled’s wife, Nina, and daughter, Kaye, have been taken prisoner by the invaders.

As the only one to escape, Finn is determined to return to the family who he senses still survives.  But before that, Skywalker has taken him to Yavin 4—to undergo training as a Jedi Knight…

Part two of the new Invasion series kicks off with a view of Prince Finn Galfridian sitting under a tree staring at a big stone trying to lift a smaller rock off of it with telekinesis.  After finally succeeding to lift the rock a small enough height to knock it off the stone he gets all excited, just then Master Skywalker shows up and lifts a boulder almost as big as the mountain top Finn is sitting on.  Luke then places it on Finns rock telling him to try again.

Next scene: Inside the Yuuzhan Vong Slave ship Tsam P’ah. The Vong have figured out that Nina is the Queen, and since she isn’t going to cooperate they hit her.  Out of fear for harm to her mother Princess Kaye agrees to go with the invaders.  Not before we see a man lashed to a wall give her the eye for going with them…..

Back to Finn at Yavin 4, (This next part is my favorite thing to see in a comic since I seen Serenity flying through Coruscant!)  Enter The Solo Knights and their friend Lowbacca!!

(Now while I enjoyed seeing my favorite group of young Jedi- this scene to me felt out of place- the Solos didn’t feel too upset about Chewie’s passing.  Now Lowie at least they left enough that it felt right.)

After teasing Finn a little they ask him to come and spare with them.  Cut to Colin Wilson’s incredible art again as they duel in the training grounds from the Jedi Apprentice game.  We see Lowie with his Yellow blade, and Jaina too- Finn has a blue one which we must assume is either a training saber (all the blades would be set to the training setting since Finn is no Jedi yet)  or either of the Solo boys blue blades lent to Finn.

After the training match Jaina and Finn strike up a conversation about Finn and his training and his hate of the Vong for what they have done to his family and world.

Soon Anakin Solo comes up going on about a noise from a cave.  Finn sends his personal droid Prowl in to check it out.

Back to the Yuuzhan Vong Slave ship Tsam P’ah Kaye is brought before the Commander Sha’Kel, he is intrigued that she manged to kill a warrior back on Artorias, she askes what the Yuuzhan Vong want.  Which he then gives her the Vong’s plans for the galaxy.

Meanwhile back on Yavin 4, Prowl enters the cave Anakin Solo discovered, and discovers what’s making the noises.  This turns out to be a Sith Hound!

The Solo youths defend Finn, and Anakin is determined to press the fight, but Jacen calls for Anakin to wait.  Typicaly Anakin rushes in anyway and Jacen has to restrain him and gets to the heart of the problem- the Sith Hound has a broke bone stuck in its side.  Jacen removes the splinter and urges the others back while he subdues the Sith Hound and sends it back to its cave with his Force Empathy.

Just then Luke Skywalker, Kyp Durron and new Jedi Master Le’ung show up.  Luke asks Finn to talk to him while the other head back to the temple.  Luke and Finn discuss his training and its progression.

Later at the Grand Temple, Skywalker, Durron and Le’ung discuss Finn and his fate, Kyp feels Finn should be harnessed as a weapon against the Vong, Le’ung thinks this is a terrible idea, Luke declares Finns training will not be rushed.  And Kyp responds that Luke’s was rushed- to which Luke says “So was my Father’s” Just then someone rushes in with news of an attack on Rychel and that Jedi aid has been asked for.  Luke decides to take Finn and trusts the Force to let him know when Finn is ready.

Just then a rock tumbles down the stairs- Kyp asks “What’s this?”

And Finn replies “It’s my Rock.”  This is impressive if you have seen the size of the boulder Luke left Finns rock pinned under.

Once again Invasion looks like it could be every bit as good a story line as the NJO books themselves or the Legacy series set 100 years later.  I look forward to #3 and facing the Vong face to face!
