Destroyer, Part 2 A captive of the Crucible slaver organization,Zayne Carrick is finding there is much more to his friend Jarael’s past than she revealed. Specifically, a Crucible trainer calledChantique is looking to settle a score, and she believes that Zayne could be key in that objective. Her plan will have him desperately attempting to resolve the psychic attack that she, the Crucible, and fellow slaves have waged in his mind — all while he fights for his life!

The secrets of the Crucible conclude in the 46th issue of Knights of the Old Republic. John Jackson Miller explores more about Chantique, Jarael, and their history with the Crucible, as well as continuing to expand on Zayne’s young character. Although Zayne’s hurt by what he learns from Chantique (including the source of her powers), his confrontation with Jarael reveals more about his continuing struggles as a former Jedi padawan. And for Jarael, we learn what her name means in the Crucible’s language and will see how Zayne responds to Jarael after all these revelations in the near future. Brian Ching continues to give the artwork KotOR fans have come to expect in this series. He continues to do a fine job with the action sequences, including the final duel between Zayne and Snout as Chantique watches with satisfaction. And as Zayne deals with the horrible feelings from what Chantique reveals, Brian does a good job capturing the internal struggle of Zayne’s heart (I’m even impressed with the cold, yet “feeling” look Snout gives before their final duel). The adventures of Knights of the Old Republic continue to build after the conclusion of the first major story arc, and I would count on something similar coming out of Chantique and the Crucible in future issues. This fan is definitely glad to be on a wild ride once again!
