According to the good people over at the SWAN podcast,

“With the ad for a new book, entitled Millennium Falcon appearing at the end of the newest Legacy of the Force book Invincible (on store shelves tomorrow) it was widely suspected that this meant Del Rey’s contract with Lucasfilm for more Star Wars books was extended.

We contacted our sources at Del Rey and we can now confirm this to be the case!

Per David Moench, Assistant Director of Publicity at Ballantine, Del Rey has received an extended contract for more Star Wars novels. “There are sure there will be more books into 2009″ he said, but he could not be more specific about the details of the contract, how many years it covered, or how many books we may see. He did confirm there would be new adult fiction as well as companion books, like the Star Wars Encyclopedia being released this fall

So that means more great Star Wars fiction to come from Del Rey. We expect an official announcement from Lucasfilm’s Sue Rostoni to be forthcoming.”

Like we said back in our original Falcon novel post, this was expected, but very interesting none the less. We’ll keep you posted with all the latest news and will try to get a comment from Sue.

As promised, we did get a hold of Sue Rostoni. She told us, “I can’t make a comments until  the contract is signed.” What does this mean? Well, it seems that the contract will be extended for Del Rey, but it hasn’t been signed yet. Thanks to Sue for answering!
