IGN.com has a very detailed and interesting preview up for the upcoming “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” They discuss the story, characters, and more. The most interesting thing is when they discuss vocie actors/actress though and say:

Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor apparently couldn’t be bothered to return to voice their characters for the project. Instead, some talented soundalikes have been found in voice actors Matt Lanter and James Arnold Taylor. Lanter (Anakin) is an up-and-coming actor who next appears in MGM’s direct-to-video WarGames sequel. Taylor, who voices Obi-Wan, will be recognized by most IGN readers as the voice of Tidus in Final Fantasy X.”

We’re taking their word for it, although nothing official from Lucasfilm has been said as far as we’re aware. Lanter hasn’t played Skywalker before, but Taylor played Obi-Wan in the Clone Wars micro series in 2003 and 2005 as well as in “Battlefront II.”  We do know that Christoper Lee, Anthony Daniels, and Samuel L. Jackson will be returning, and that’s enough for us, I suppose. You can check out the entire preview here on IGN.

    Warning - ranting ahead!!

With the abundance of SW sites out there (mine included in this little rant), and the fact that TCW is the biggest thing to come out of Lucas since the PT, why oh why are we (the SW fan community) reading such an editorial on IGN instead of on a SW website?

Obvisously there could be stupid mistakes on the IGN report (as what happened with the LATimes report not so long ago) that any self respecting SW fan wouldn’t make, but that doesn’t excuse the fact it is non-SW sites that are writing these reports and *WE* (the SW fan site community) simply end up reporting that they have been published.

Surely, it is us, the SW fans, who should be writing these reports and it is IGN (and co.) who should be linking to us!!!

    Very true Zee Zee…

You see, if we have the ability to actually meet Lucasfilm and have e-mails of their high ranking people, we would. However, our contact information is limited and it seems IGN did quite a bit of research in this one. Sure, they are telling us what we, SW fans already know, but many who go on IGN are just gamers/movie goers and it would help them to see it all put together for them. So, I agree, but I don’t think we can do anything about it.

After reading IGN’s article, I would be pleasantly surprised if its writer had actually talked or e-mailed with anyone in LucasFilm. To me, this article appears to have been “cobbled together” from various other reports and published articles, at no point does its author (Brian Linder) imply that he, or anyone else at IGN, actually spoke to Dave Filoni or Catherine Winder.
In fact I would say that parts of the article are almost libellous in nature (re: Hayden and Ewan bit), and are quite clearly the authors own opinion (and quite a strong one a that), hardly a balanced report that claims to be “everything we know about the upcoming CG-animated LucasFilm flick”.

I am reminded of the rant (IIRC it was Austin) in one of your EUCasts about Peter Mayhew keeping his gob shut: to me this “article” is a second-rate and second-hand (no substantiated sources) piece that could have been so much better for everyone concerned (ie SW and SW fandom) if it had been written by the SW community rather than a gaming site. I mean, it’s quite clear it’s ALL that IGN know about the TCW movie!!
