It was just last week that Sue Rostoni, Editor at Lucas Licensing, told us that work was still to be done on the new cover art for the Heir to the Empire 20th Anniversary Edition. Now, a version of the cover that is possibly only temporary has appeared in the Random House summer catalog. This new edition of the classic novel by Timothy Zahn will also feature a new short story and annotations from the author. You can view the cover below.

It should be noted that the cover is in black and white because it was in the catalog. Whether this is the final version of the cover remains to be seen, but you can expect an official announcement on StarWars.com in the future.
The 20th Anniversary Edition of Heir to the Empire will be released on June 21, 2011.
Update:
Del Rey editor Erich Schoeneweiss reminds us that “Information and covers in the catalogs are always subject to change.” Even if this is the direction they are heading with the cover, and it’s not just a placeholder, it can still change before release.

Hoo yeah. I can’t wait to replace my battered paperback of HTTE with this baby.
I don’t know what I was expecting, but not this. I hope it’s preliminary. It’s going to look pretty out of place on the shelf.
