Weekly EU Releases: Jan 17th – 26th

January may have started out a little slow, but releases are starting to gain momentum. We’ve seen a flood of new additions to StarWars.com’s free webcomic The Clone Wars: The Valsedian Operation. Part 10 and Part 11 are both online. For a comic that was supposed to follow Season 3 of the television show, it has managed to keep Obi-Wan, Anakin, Ahsoka, R2, and even Asajj pretty busy. It will be interesting to see how all these tales line up someday. Also in comic news, we have Dark Horse’s next Omnibus collection of classic comics with Star Wars Omnibus: A Long Time Ago…. Vol 3, which collects issues #50 – 67 of the Marvel run, as well as the King-Size Annual #2: Shadeshine. That’s almost five hundred pages of classic Star Wars action and adventure at a price few can argue with! There were a few DK reader books out as well; Feel The Force, and Tatooine Adventures.

As we shift into next week we have an exciting announcement to pass along from Dark Horse Comics. They tweeted some great news on Friday:

“Next week we will announce a brand-new #StarWars series! Hope you can wait!”

So stay tuned next week as details are made known. And if that’s not enough to make you excited for next week; John Jackson Miller’s Paperback Knight Errant will hit stands everywhere. And following that we’ll get out first look at Darth Vader and the Lost Command, with the first of twelve 25th Anniversary Variant covers available, as well as Legacy: War#2. So while the month may have started out slow it’s definitely picking up speed. And this next week sounds like it will be pretty news worthy too!

Star Wars: Knight Errant:

An original adventure featuring Jedi Kerra Holt—star of the hot new Dark Horse Knight Errant comic series

A thousand years before Luke Skywalker, a generation before Darth Bane, in a galaxy far, far away . . .

The Republic is in crisis. The Sith roam unchecked, vying with one another to dominate the galaxy. But one lone Jedi, Kerra Holt, is determined to take down the Dark Lords. Her enemies are strange and many: Lord Daiman, who imagines himself the creator of the universe; Lord Odion, who intends to be its destroyer; the curious siblings Quillan and Dromika; the enigmatic Arkadia. So many warring Sith weaving a patchwork of brutality—with only Kerra Holt to defend the innocents caught underfoot.

Sensing a sinister pattern in the chaos, Kerra embarks on a journey that will take her into fierce battles against even fiercer enemies. With one against so many, her only chance of success lies with forging alliances among those who serve her enemies—including a mysterious Sith spy and a clever mercenary general. But will they be her adversaries or her salvation?

Includes a special, full-color excerpt from the Dark Horse comic Star Wars: Knight Errant

From John Jackson Miller:

Knight Errant follows Kerra Holt, a young Jedi operating in Sith space during a time in which the Republic and Jedi Order have largely abandoned many systems to their fates. The Outer Rim is a crazy-quilt patchwork of mini-empires controlled still crazier Sith Lords, all of whom have their own deranged spins on Sith philosophy and a healthy hatred for their rivals. Hiding among the enslaved citizens, Kerra sees Sith madness up-close — and acts. But how much can a Jedi alone do — and can she really trust anyone at all?

Kerra Holt also appears in Knight Errant comics from Dark Horse, but the novel stands alone, providing an easy entry into this tumultuous era in Star Wars history. Depicting a time 1,000 years before Episode I and a place where Sith rule is near-absolute, Knight Errant asks its heroine what it means to be a Jedi when hope is nearly gone.

Darth Vader and the Lost Command:

Haden Blackman (W), Rick Leonardi (P), Dan Green (I), Wes Dzioba (C), Tsuneo Sanda (Cover), and Douglas Wheatley (Cover) Still haunted by the events in Revenge of the Sith, Darth Vader must set aside his past and put his future on hold for a mission to the mysterious Ghost Nebula to locate-and if possible, rescue-a missing Imperial expeditionary force. But what seems a perfect opportunity to lose himself in his duty is complicated by two factors: he is paired with a willful yet highly competent co-commander, and the officer they are being sent to locate is the son of Vader’s rising nemesis, Moff Tarkin.

Legacy: War #2:

It’s all–out war as the Sith Empire unleashes its forces–and its secret weapons–on the rest of the galaxy. As Emperor–in–Exile Roan Fel loses ground against the Sith, he plots to use the enemy’s own devices against them–regardless of the cost in innocent lives.

Meanwhile, Cade Skywalker has a plan to draw out Darth Krayt for a showdown, a Sith spy within Fel’s ranks is revealed, and Fel’s own spy meets her fate!
