Sue Rostoni, editor at Lucasbooks, has provided a new Star Wars book publishing calendar for 2011, along with a look at 2012 for fiction items. The schedule includes some major changes, the most noticeable of which may be a move for the final novel in the Fate of the Jedi series. Apocalypse, by Troy Denning, was originally going to be released on November 22 of this year, but will now move to April of 2012. Continue reading for the new schedule and a list of items with new release dates.
Here’s the 2011 calendar as it now stands, beginning with KNIGHT ERRANT that just came out.
January 15 – KNIGHT ERRANT (John Jackson Miller)
February 22 – BACKLASH reprint (Aaron Allston)
March 22 – DECEIVED (Paul Kemp)
March 29 – SW Craft book (Bonnie Burton)
April 26 – ALLIES reprint (Christie Golden)
May 24 – CONVICTION (Aaron Allston)
May 24 FATAL ALLIANCE reprint (Sean Williams)
June 21 – HEIR TO THE EMPIRE ANNIVERSARY EDITION (Timothy Zahn)
July 19 – CHOICES OF ONE (Timothy Zahn)
August 16 ASCENSION (Christie Golden)
August 30 – THE FORCE UNLEASHED II reprint (Sean Williams)
September 27 – RIPTIDE (Paul Kemp)
October 18 – Something that hasn’t been announced yet, I don’t think.
October 18 – THE COMPLETE VADER (Ryder Windham and Pete Vilmur)
November 29 – SHADOW GAMES (Michael Reaves and Maya Bohnhoff)
For 2012, I have titles in months, without actual on sale dates… and I’ll list only the new fiction releases that are somewhat set for the moment, but only for the moment…
January – DARTH PLAGUEIS (working title) (James Luceno)
April – APOCALYPSE (Troy Denning)
May – Untitled (Jeff Grubb)
July – Untitled Wraith Squadron (Aaron Allston)
August – Lost Tribe of the Sith anthology (John Jackson Miller)
September – Untitled Nomi Sunrider (Alex Irvine)
November – Book 1 of a duology.
Books that have had a release date change:
- Riptide – originally July 26, 2011.
- Shadow Games – originally September 27, 2011.
- Apacalypse – originally November 22, 2011.
- Untitled (Jeff Grubb) – originally January 31, 2012.
- Untitled Nomi Sunrider – originally December 31, 2011.
I would speculate that the untitled release for October 18 is Drew Karpyshyn’s The Old Republic novel. Though Drew has yet to announce this project himself, it was on the publishing calendar provided by Del Rey at their panel during Celebration V. The “Book 1 of a duology” in 2012 could be one of the novels Paul S. Kemp has signed on to write. Also of note is the announcement of the Lost Tribe of the Sith anthology, and item fans have wondered about, but never received confirmation for.
UPDATE: Sue has now confirmed that the novel on October 18 will be Drew Karpyshyn’s The Old Republic novel and that the untitled Duology #1 is the Paul S. Kemp novel. She also states that Coruscant Nights 4: Jedi Dawn will be published in August of 2013, instead of November 2012.
On the change for the final Fate of the Jedi novel, Sue says:
Editorially, it’s been too stressful to have them any closer together. The time crunches to make production deadlines have been unwieldy. It’s better for us to have a little more room between them.
As for after Fate of the Jedi? No plans yet:
We don’t have anything planned right now (as of this minute) that will be set after the end of the FotJ series.
We have updated our release schedule for 2011 accordingly.
