There’s a recently announced Scholastic series by the name of Rebel Force.  There’s already quite a bit information on the series, including names and covers for the first two books - book #1 is Target, while book #2 is Hostage.  The covers can be seen below:

Target

The series will be written by author Alex Wheeler, and as of right now the two first books are scheduled for a release date of January 2009.  The short summary of the series goes as follows:

“It is a critical moment in the struggle between the Rebels and the Empire: the Force itself hangs in the balance, and all the hopes of the galaxy depend on the adventures of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and a host of other heroes.”

You can find additional information on both books here.

New SW Author Karen Miller recently sat down with the Unofficial Clone Wars Site to discuss her upcoming novel, “Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Wild Space,” the second in a five novel series. Here’s an excerpt from the interview:

“T - Karen Traviss’s The Clone Wars was the first step at bringing the Star Wars Clone Wars series to prose - how does your book follow with the series? Is it an adaptation from the series, or is it an original work with the same constraints and inspiration?

K - Wild Space follows on from Karen T’s Clone Wars novel, in so far as it — broadly speaking — picks up after the events of the film/her novelisation. But having said that, there are some flashbacks to Attack of the Clones too, which I had the most fun writing, I can’t begin to tell you. Anyhow, what I’ve done is weave a new adventure for Obi-Wan — and Bail Organa — in and around a pivotal event in the tv series — namely, the loss of Artoo in the field. The folk at Lucasfilm and Del Rey have been so wonderful — I asked if I could get a bit creative, and they fully supported me. So there are some scenes from the tv episodes that I retell from a different point of view, that tie Wild Space in with the series but leave me free to tell a new story. If that makes any sense. *g* As for the next two I’m writing, well, they’re bubbling away in the back of my mind right now. No spoilers!”

EUC readers may recall that a little while back editor Sue Rostoni talked about the cover of the upcoming “Blood Oath,” mentioning that it will feature Zekk as “rugged and handsome.” Well, author Elaine Cunningham recently got a hold of it and here’s what she had to say about it on her personal blog:

“UPS just delivered a package of cover flats for my upcoming Star Wars book.  The design is flat-out gorgeous.  Zekk is flat-out gorgeous.  The color scheme is NOT PINK, which in and of itself is sufficient occasion for glee, but I’ve gotta say, the use of color on this cover is wonderful.

I love this cover.  Love. It. ”

Fan girls be ready?

A little while back, Sue Rostoni told us that we can expect to see Luke Skywalker on the cover of the upcoming “Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Outcast” novel. What she didn’t tell us then, however, is we can also can expect to see someone else. According to Rostoni,

“The plan for the Fate of the Jedi books is to have a main character on the cover as well as a secondary character. The design concepts we saw showed just the one character — I haven’t seen a final concept for OUTCAST yet.

Well, it’s not the cover, but at least we know to expect more than just Luke on Outcast!

A little while back, Sue Rostoni gave us a hint that the “Untitled Game Novel” could be connected to the upcoming “Star Wars: The Old Republic” MMO. Well, now it seems she’s basically confirmed it. Sue was asked,

“Will you guys consider doing something with Del Rey/Dark Horse so that us unfortunate souls that don’t play MMO’s don’t miss out on the epic story?”

To which she replied,

“Yes, this is part of the plan. A novel will come out sometime around the game release time and that’s all that’s been determined so far. I’ll let you know as things develop.”

Very, very interesting– we will keep you informed on any information on this as it develops.

On the Starwars.com forums, Sue Rostoni recently commented on her VIP thread about the cover art for the upcoming Blood Oath:

We received the “final” cover art yesterday, but one of the other characters on the cover had to have her blaster changed — it looked too earth-bound, so we’re having it changed to a more Star Wars hold-out blaster style. Dave Seeley is painting the cover, and it looks awesome — At first glance it looks a bit like a romance novel cover, but don’t let that put you off. The cover features Zekk up front, with two women in the background… Hapan women… women you may remember from a previous LotF novel… oh, I just spilled my coffee — hang on a moment…

Great teaser for the cover to be sure. From the sound of things it seems like the two women she’s speaking of are the Zel sisters, Trista and Taryn, who some of you might remember from the last LOTF book Invincible. But we can’t be sure until we see the actual cover.

Author Paul S. Kemp, who’s upcoming novel set in the Kotor era was recently titled “Crosscurrent,” updated his blog with an interview in which he talks about “Star Wars” galore.  Here’s an excerpt from the interview:

Jay Tomio - When and under what circumstance were you first exposed to Star Wars?

Paul S. Kemp - My dad took me to see A New Hope on the day it opened.

Jay Tomio - How did your hat get in the ring? Were you approached or is this a gig or story that you have been pitching.

Paul S. Kemp - I had been corresponding with one of the Del Rey editors off and on for a couple years. Last year, she asked to see something I’d written so I fired off Shadowbred. She enjoyed it a great deal and said she’d keep me in mind if something opened up in the Star Wars line. I touched base with her quarterly after that until finally something opened up.
