No traditional “Star Wars” crawl in The Clone WarsPosted by: Son of Skywalker in Media NewsIf readers of EUC recall, last week we showed you a review of the upcoming “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” movie.(Here) You may have noticed that the author of the review mentioned that the movie had no traditional opening crawl, but rather something else, which he declined to comment on. Well, thanks to the MTV Movie Blog, we know what and why. Dave Filoni told the MTV Movie Blog that the reason the crawl wasn’t included was: “Because we originally developed this as a TV series, George [Lucas] felt that the crawl wasn’t going to be effective as a way to introduce the audience to the TV series,” director Dave Filoni said of the ‘Star Wars’ crawl, the distinctive prologue which has begun every single feature adventure so far. “He wanted it to be faster and he wanted to do it visually.” However, that doesn’t mean there will be nothing. The crawl has been replaced with a “Starship Troopers” esque newsreel trope, complete with 1940s style radio announcer. For information on the crawl replacement, check out the MTV Movie Blog article here. Remember, the Clone Wars is due out next Friday, August 15. Source: MTV Movie Blogs (via)

The Official Site has an interview with the upcoming “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” creators George Lucas and Dave Filoni. Here’s an excerpt from their Clone Wars discussion: “How did the idea of an animated Star Wars movie come about? George Lucas: The interesting thing about the Clone Wars is that in the normal course of the six Star WarsThe Clone Wars was intriguing to me because it really allows us to tell other stories, show other Jedi, introduce new characters and even tell stories about the clones themselves. Some of them have very interesting stories. It allows us to broaden the canvas of what Star Wars is about. Dave Filoni: One of the things that has always surprised me is how many stories there are to tell in what seems like a small amount of time. The period between Episodes II and III was only about three years. But we can tell so many new stories and meet new characters and go new places — places I never imagined we could.” To view the entire interview, head over to SW.com here. Enjoy! The sci-fi TV series will likely be filmed at Sydney’s FOX Studios. “We’re looking to shoot it in Australia,” Lucas told a press conference at his Big Rock ranch, the site for his new animation studio, north of San Francisco. If given the green light, the live action Star Wars offshoot will be one of the most expensive TV productions made in Australia and create hundreds of acting and crew jobs for the local industry. There was speculation the as yet untitled series would begin shooting next year, but it may be pushed back to 2010. Lucas has employed two Australian scriptwriters to pen the series and continues to work on “getting all of the technology worked out” to make the show.” The article, written by Peter Mitchell, goes on to say what the show will about about and when, based on what Mr. George Lucas said about the series at a press screening of “The Clone Wars.” You can read the entire article here. Science Fiction magazine SFX recently was able to see an advanced viewing of the upcoming “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and have a great review of it, giving the movie four out of five stars. Here’s an excerpt: “The CG proves surprisingly effective, with the cast’s cartoony, almost puppet-like appearance perfectly suiting the material. The animation may not possess Pixar levels of complexity – probably impossible when you’ve eventually got to churn out weekly episodes – but with its vibrant colour scheme and simple, get-to-the-point dialogue, The Clone Wars is straight out of the comic-book school of storytelling. Needless to say, the hardware and spaceships look fantastic – you have to look very hard to see where what you see here differs from the (admittedly just as CG) equivalents in the prequels.” You can check out the entire review, which is pretty much spoiler free, right here. Enjoy!
