Sith Hierarchy?

I'm in the middle of rereading Darth Bane: The Path Of Destruction and I gots to thinking about something when all of the Sith Apprentices were elevated to the level of Dark Lord. What exactly is the Sith hierarchy? It's never really made clear, sometimes they call the Brotherhood masters, other times they call them the same as the rest, Lords. I know for Jedi it goes Padawn-Knight-Master. But what is it for the Sith, is it something like Apprentice-Lord-Master, or something else?

Well pretty much there are apprentices and masters, and the masters are given the title Lord. During Kaan's rule, all Sith were made 'Lords' supposedly. But then there are other Sith who have other skill sets, and that's where it gets confusing. You have Sith soldiers, assassins, marauders, etc. With the Jedi you either walked the path of the Jedi or you ended up in the AgriCorps. With the Sith, it seems you either walk the path of the Sith Lords, or you can be one of a numerous branch of other professions including assassins and marauders.

Oh, and the Sith usually have a Sith council of a dozen or so members and they are in turn led by the Dark Lord of the Sith. During the rule of two, the senior Sith Lord is the Dark Lord of the Sith.

If nothing else Bane sure made Sith heirarchy a lot easier.

With the Rule of Two there can only be two, but initially its a Sith Lord and a Sith Apprentice. When the apprentice becomes powerful enough, they are recognized as a Sith Lord in their own right. Fast forward to Sidious and Maul. Both were Sith Lords, but Sidious was the Dark Lord of the Sith, the senior lord. At some point Maul went from apprentice to lord, an acknowledgment of his progress.

When mentioning assassins and mauraders, I try to remember that it comes from a video game that needed some way to make different classes, much like shock and lightning will always be Force lightning but in a game, you need the different levels. And for Darth Maul, I think he was still the apprentice but since the Jedi didn't know that, they called him a Sith Lord and Sidious may have said it just to place fear in others.

With the base belief of the Sith, I really can't see a council or anything leading the group. The council may just be a set up to mock the Jedi, but all the power would be with the Sith who can defeat not just his Jedi enemies, but also place all under his control through deception, assassination, and blackmail. I think the Sith have always had a very simple structure, and when it's diluted (like Kaan's Sith) the Sith aren't as strong as they could be because of their fundamental beliefs of power and improving oneself. Maybe I've just been out of touch, but that's what I took away from Path of Destruction and haven't read the second one. Since the Jedi have a different fundamental belief of helping the galaxy as a whole, they can get along better with a council and work together to accomplish those beliefs than constantly fight amongst themselves (...at least, I think in a theoretical, fundamental sense; they always have constant disagreements, especially Durron and Horn Laughing

Well the old Sith Empire had a Sith Council who advised the ruler of the Sith. And Omen's Sith Tribe has a hierarchy of their own which may or may not reflect what the old Sith's looked like.

Well, unless I read the old comics wrong, I don't remember the Sith ever having those titles and what not but you say the "old Sith of 5000 years," but is something completely new to this series to appease all the fans who want more order with the Sith. I fine with this order as long as they are quite often in shift as everyone betrays each other like the Sith ALWAYS have done...unless that's another continuity shift on equal par to Palpatine not wanting Vader to hunt down and destroy the Jedi like Episode IV said back in '77, but I'm just a fan so what can I understand about continuity that the editors of the books can (a little harsh but I find this more frustrating than appealing).

And I will still not read FotJ, even if they mention the hierarchy because I guess I no longer care what is done in this universe anymore (unless they resurrect Anakin Solo and turn him into a Sith, then I'll deeply care but I wouldn't count on that.....yet?? *shrugs*)

Well in the comics for the Old Sith Empire, there was a couple scenes where top Sith were gathered around a table. Remember there was that guy with his head in a jar, Naga Sadow, Ludo Kresh, and others. The comics never really said who they were or what their position was. (Though I think there was a RP supplement for the Tales of the Jedi series but I never did get to read it). It's quite possible those guys were the Sith Council. The top leaders of the Sith, the most powerful of the Sith Lords or masters or whatever. In fact we don't know a lot about what kind of structure the Sith Order had back then, at least not from the comics. Thus that gives the books a lot of room to go back and define that structure.
