Fate of the Jedi 3: Abyss
by Troy Denning

Discuss!

Okay, knowing what we know from Outcast and Omen, and seeing the name of this book, the person on the cover, and the person writing this book, is it too soon to fear that Leia is a goner? Shocked

I don't think they'll kill her, I honestly think if they were gonna make a Solo kill it'd be Han and they'd leave Leia with Amelia. But I DO believe there'll be a big kill in the end, simply because Denning is involved (sorry Troy, I like your work, but that's all they get you for. You make kills and you write them well ).

I agree that Han will be the one to die. there will be one big kill, and i think they have more to write about with Leia than with keeping Han alive. If anyone has to go, it will be him. I think someone on a different thread said that Han and Boba should go out together in a big fight, and I agree...EXCEPT-doesn't Traviss have a stand-alone Fett novel coming out later?

Leia on the cover and the major sacrificial female victim of LotF in the backcover? It screams Leia's death... but I don't think that Lucas would have given green light for it.

So I consider the major deaths of FotJ be "just" major EU characters, not movie characters - although at one point I considered Lando to be a possibility.I guess that few major Jedi characters will die at least.

This is the dread I was wondering would come out of Omen or not: death by Troy Denning. If the guy was bothered by it, I would expect him to say something but maybe they plan to revamp the whole series eventually, erase everything and start again, and what better way to do it then literally kill off everything. Purely hypothetical, but I'm sorry to see more death fears for the next book (it's sad when all the discussion is on "who's next"; argh)

Well, they were up there in years in NJO and they wouldn't be climbing at such an alarming rate if the story lines weren't continuing to jump 5 years each time. But I guess everyone wants to tell the Ben Skywalker story or be the author to kill off the last of the movie characters. I don't know, but it's still sad.

One cannot help but fear death when you've got a title like "Abyss" and an author known for killing off major characters. But maybe, just maybe, the 'Abyss' factor isn't character death, but the tide of the Sith coming into play. If they're going to be the big protagonists for this 9 book series, then what better point than book 3 to finally make them into a real, genuine threat?

What I want to know is what was up with that voice on Kessel's moon and how does that machinery on Kessel tie in with everything else? Is there something even bigger on the horizon? Something more evil, or dangerous, than Sith?

I don't see why he should be bothered by it. People die, and in a world where they are involved in one conflict after another, a lot of people die. Troy Denning became one of my favorites not just because of his 3writing style but because of his ability to understand that people die, it happens.

People die in his novels, yes, except his own favourite characters... Confused

Yes. Hopefully I'm correct about him.

I don't think anyone will die yet, just because it is the third book in the series. There may be foreshadowing, though...

Ok, so the inside flap (according to sources) says that the Mind Walkers have the power to leave their bodies into the Force and still retain physical presence, and that the Luke may have to do it to discover what happened to Jacen. Could this be the kill they got Denning for?

If I'm wrong, feel free to rub my nose in it, but I still doubt anyone major will die in FotJ.
