Agh! Overload, overload! The last episode of Terminator totally threw me for a loop! I mean...I understand what they were saying:

John went into the future and so therefore did not exist in the past to start the resistence. In his place Kyle took up leadership. Which to me means, "John was never absolutely needed in the first place!" Not that we wanted him to die, to the contrary, but he wasn't totally essential. The human race will always find a way to survive, and lacking John Connor, someone else stood up. This is the 'message' I got from that bit. But...I don't like that message. Especially because we have a big movie coming up that totally grates against that storyline!
Also, what happened to John Henry? What happened to Weaver? Did they just melt into the background to one day help the humans? As Weaver said, "And your John can't do it without mine." Of course...John isn't the leader anymore. But anyway. Why did Weaver answer "No" if she was indeed set on helping the humans survive? And why would she flip the question around and ask them after she'd already denied their request?
I'm assuming Sarah followed them, because there was a flicker of lightning and then her, "I love you, too." Meaning to me that she went after him. And they could fix this whole mess of a timeline. In other words, they're in the future, but an early future. See...all along, Kyle Reese started the Resistance. But one day he was sent back to the past by his friend John Connor to save John's mother, Sarah Connor. This is when John was born. Because Kyle dies in the past, John then becomes leader in the future. Or did they say he was already leader in Terminator 1? Bummer. This is a mess!
I hope they squeak in another season to fix it. *sniff* Cause that's gonna bug me for the rest of forever. Mainly because what I've thought all along about the Terminator timeline is no longer true! And it conflicts with the movies, the first and second of which were absolutely amazing.
Sooo...yeah. I digress.
Edit: Nevermind, I don't digress! Actually, I've just had a brilliant thought:

Though I'm sure it might be a little late, as most have probably already come up with it. Here we have, as I said, a young future. Kyle Reese is leader of the Resistance, but a very shaky one at that. John has just arrived with all his experience and expertise, and they might just believe his story. Now he'll help the Resistance fight off the machines, and because of his expertise and the fact that he's been training for this all his life, he'll soon prove his worthiness, and Kyle will surrender leadership to John. They will become very good friends, and this is why John will send Kyle back to protect his mother, who (after I've reconsidered) is still in the past. I suppose maybe her words just carried through to the future, a way of saying that she did love him, and John knew it. So yes, see...this way works wonderfully. This is how John always became leader of the Resistance, we just didn't know it. We thought he experienced Judgment Day like everyone else, but he actually jumped over it and right to the heart of the matter.
And another thing. I was thinking about this bit backwards. Grown up John of the future asked Weaver, "Will you join us?", because he knew she was trying to be on the humans' side. However, Weaver knew they weren't ready yet, and so said no. But now that she's gone back into the past and has fixed that (by acquiring John Henry), she is indeed ready. And so repeats John's own question to him, in other words letting him know that they are ready to join the humans. This, indeed, is how they will work together to defeat SkyNet. Ha, I am a genius!
