My English class is really depressing this year. English has always been one of my favourite subjects up till now. There's virtually no writing involved (except for essays ), no creativity and no joy whatsoever. Basically what we do is read depressing articles and novels (ie, gangs, drugs, falsley accused guys, the Depression, migrant workers, the death penalty, wellfare, the legalization of marijuana...) and comment about them. Now, I understand we need to be trained for the 'real world', but isn't this a little over the top? I would prefer if, at least once in a while, we learned about good things in the world or, at least, examples of what we should do, instead of always what we shouldn't. _________________
