I actually think that's cool, except for all the instances where that was previously said to be impossible, but it was established that there were half-breeds and mixed breeds, so inter-species reproduction wasn't impossible. I'd always assumed they were traditional decoration,like the headpiece or something, also due in part to seeing the Tw'leks with the human ears.
