The Death Penalty

I think we need a two new threads. One to discuss all things religion, and one to discuss relativism.

My stance: Totally for it. I have an example to go with it, and i will elaborate later, since its been a long weekend and im getting tired Smile

So in Milawaukee, my county, about maybe 5 days ago, this woman and her two kids were murdered. No one knew anything about what happened. Well, yesterday they found the guys that did it. I will enclose what happened to them in spoiler tags since it is pretty sickening, but in short two robbers killed the mom and her two and three year old boys.

I am extremely disturbed by this, as most everyone should be. The thing that makes me the most sick, is that Wisconsin doesnt do the death penalty. So the two robbers, human pieces of crap, only get a life sentence in jail for brutally killing a mother and her young, innocent children. They ended thier lives horrifically, and get to live the rest of lives out in a nice Wisconsin prison. It just makes me sick. People that do things like that desreve the death penalty, imo

This relativism issue interests me. I think it needs a thread of it's own.

Continuing the discussion on the death penalty, what about how it applies to animals? Often when an animal, more often than not a dog, attacks a person, it is usually "put to sleep" ie. killed. So, what are your opinions on the death penalty and animals?

(lets try to avoid the euthanasia of animal shelters and merely discuss criminal cases were the animal is sentenced to be killed)

I've often heard of cases where people with pit bulls have their dogs get loose, or someone gets near them, and then that someone gets hurt or even killed. They always ended up killing the dog. I suppose there are a lot of reasons for this, but I always find a part of my self saying that it's not really the dog's fault, he's just doing what he was bred to do. Though having his owner killed instead would be a little drastic.

Hmmm, interesting. To me, it kind of depends on the case. Like if the dog killed or badly injured a child, if the person attacked had been warned by the owner and ignored it, if the dog had been bred to fight, etc. I'm an animal lover and it always makes me sad to see one put to sleep, but sometimes it has to be done.

Good question. I have lived with a dog (Mac) who was abused by his former owners and could be agressive around other dogs and people. People have advised (and sometimes threatened) to put him down, but we kept him until the end (he died of a heart attack, a few weeks ago). He used to bite, but not go all out just a snap, but he was a great dog with people he knew.

I don't really have an answer right now, but that's something to think about.

I'm for the death penalty. Murderers need to have punishment, and when they stoop down to that level, they don't have any rights anymore.
