Your Expanded Universe

The year is 2012, and the world as we know it is said to soon be coming to an end. The human civilization on the planet Earth is much more advanced than even the movie 2001 attempted to portray. Due to the cataclysmic events that are soon going to take place, the humans on the planet Earth have elected to send a group of their own into outer space, so as to preserve the human race. This expedition of survival will carry 100 human beings, and you have been chosen as one of the lucky few.

As the sole serious Star Wars fan aboard the ship, those who are striving to preserve the history of the human race on this expedition have unrealistically asked you to bring your Star Wars collection with you. They feel that such a pivotal entertainment series in human history should survive the end of the world. Unfortunately, however, the books, comics, and TV series in your Star Wars collection are too vast for what you will be allowed to bring. At least 10 series and/or standalones must be removed, though more is certainly allowed.

Realizing that whatever you bring with you will be all that future generations know of the Star Wars EU, you choose this moment to eradicate the things you never thought should have existed in the first place. The only rule is that entire series must be removed. You cannot remove simply one book from that series. Standalone books can be removed on their own, however. Comic series must be removed together, and so must entire TV series. You cannot pick and choose episodes or seasons.

Now is the time for you to weed out the unworthy additions to your beloved Star Wars saga. Now is the time to make the EU your own. Choose wisely:

Okay, so I thought this would be a fun way to see who would remove what in the Star Wars EU. I know a lot of us agree on what should and should not be, but I'm interested to see the things we disagree on. So I'll start us off. The first 10 things I would do away with:

1. The current Clone Wars TV series
2. The Black Fleet Crisis Trilogy
3. Legacy of the Force
4. The Lando Calrissian Trilogy
5. Dark Empire
6. Children of the Jedi
7. Darksaber
8. Planet of Twilight
9. The Crystal Star
10. The Dark Nest Trilogy

I'm with you on the Clone Wars TV Series and the Dark Nest Trilogy. Everything else wasn't so hot but it was standable. And I actually liked Callista as a character...

If I weren't looking for 10, I would have left #'s 6-9. Those were tolerable, surely. But if some things should go, in my opinion, those would go before others. The Black Fleet Crisis and The Lando Calrissian Trilogies, however, were just terrible material to me. I had a lot of trouble finishing them. And I don't see how either contributed to the saga overall, so I would definitely pick those to go. Smile

1. The clone Wars TV Series must go
2. The Jedi Prince Storyline
3. Star Wars Ewok films
4. Star Wars Christmas Special
5. Darksaber. The Callista trilogy really should've been a duology
6. The Dark Nest trilogy
7. The Force Unleashed. I'll say it, its not horrible but the story isn't necessary
8. Attack of the Clones. I'd rather there be a gap sometimes than that poorly acted film
9. The Black Fleet Crisis. Getting to 10 is kinda hard so here we go
10. The Lando Calrissian Trilogy. Despite the fact that it explained the Silentium/Abominor war in a different galaxy that has been retconned to be the reason for the Yuuzhan Vong's techno-phobia and that launched them to a warrior people.

Wow, that WAS hard...

Oh boy. I guess we can't just remove characters, huh? Because I think Clone Wars is tolerable with Ahsoka. Confused

Ya know, I hear a lot of hate towards Crystal Star and yes it was a terrible book but I still think it was an interesting concept that was just poorly executed. Maybe I have a soft spot for it because it was the first SW novel I ever truly owned.

Perfectly understandable. The AotC novel was my first, so I have a weird affection for it. The Crystal Star was just too Trekkie, in my opinion.

5. The Holiday Special (That was a disgrace to Wookiees and Kashyyyk)
6. Splinter of the Mind's Eye
7, 8, 9, and 10. Everything else after the Yuuzhan Vong War

They killed Anakin and Chewie... Plus the Yuuzhan Vong could've been thought better. Confused

I agree about Anakin and Chewie, but I felt that the series as a whole had more positives than negatives and contributed so greatly to the Star Wars saga that even Anakin and Chewie's deaths were warranted. At least enough in that I wouldn't be able to get rid of the series as a whole. Of course I always wish Anakin wouldn't have died, but I felt that the series overall was too good to remove. Just my two cents. Smile
