Someone suggested this on TF.N's book forums under the thread "What would you like the EU stories do next". That there should be Alternate Universe novels and there should be a novel labeled Episode VII and it would be written by James Luceno and treated as though Lucas made the movie and it would be the novelization. It would be set 20-40 years after ROTJ with Episode VI to end on a high note, there would be 20-40 years of peace until the next threat to the galaxy arises and it would be based on Lucas' original ideas for the sequel trilogy including Luke never getting married, the Original Other,Luke's supposed protege for the sequel trilogy or Luke taking on Jacen as an apprentice and then Luke could still get Mara pregnant and have Ben and Ben could be Jacen's apprentice and the novel would open the door for Episodes VIII and IX like ANH did for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. This would be a perfect way to reboot the EU in the future.

After the trilogy is completed future novels could explore the 20-40 years of peace or minor adventures that Luke,Han and Leia and co. go on or exploring the in between books of the trilogy or writing new novels featuring Luke and co. during the OT etc.

This idea really captured my imgination and I think it would be cool if the EU were rebooted and they did novels of Episodes VII-IX based on Lucas original ideas for the sequels back in 1979 or 1983. Hope they do this if Del Rey renews the contract for 2014 and beyond or maybe around 2017-2018.

Exclamation Very Happy

as sad as it is that its thought of, i would have to say if it erased LotF and Anakin Solo's death I might accept it...

Both the threads like this over at SW.com my vote: I'm all for it- as long as it's a separate continuity- an EU2 if you will- either with George fully behind the wheel- or completely removed.

The beauty is you could still have both lines going- much like they have the kids digest comics that are a little off plum as is Laughing

I like what could ultimately come out of a reboot - but there is so much of the EU I really like that I would be afraid to lose. They do this kind of stuff a lot in comics though.

I couldn't support a reboot, because I'm so invested in what we've gotten so far.

That said, if a reboot were to occur, I'd like to read the alternate OT stories. When I was a kid, those books really captured my imagination in a way that stuff way further down the pipeline hasn't.

Hmm, I'd like to see them focus on Ben, along with Leia's kids. It would make a pretty epic trilogy. Prequel would be about Anakin starting the Empire, Original would be about Luke starting the New Republic, and Sequel would be about the next generation of Skywalkers start the New Jedi Order (Yes, I know Leia's kids aren't Skywalkers by name, but they are by blood)

b)A Different view of what happened post-ROTJ

That's what I expect we will get someday when either Lucas or his heirs come up with post-RotJ stories that current canon can't hold. I just don't expect that what has done with post-RotJ EU will be respected then.

I would have been totally against it pre-SbS vehemently and opposed it even before Invincible. Not anymore. I'm not for or against it. It's the same to me.

Even if GL repeatedly repeats that Anakin's story is over?

Maybe and this is a big *if* after Matt Stover writes the last adventure of the Big Three say around 2016 or 2017 maybe 2 or 3 or even 10 years after that we could eventually get an EU reboot with perhaps the sequel trilogy(Episodes VII,VIII and IX) in novel form written by James Luceno based on Lucas' original ideas fot the sequels set 20 years after ROTJ featuring Luke as an elder Jedi Master and Luke's protege with the Episode VII novel in 2019,the Episode VIII novel in 2020 and finally the Episode IX novel in 2021(the 30th anniversary of the EU launch with Heir to the Empire).

Or maybe the sequel trilogy novels could be published in 2027(the 50th anniversary of SW).It would be an awesome way to celebrate the golden anniversary of SW maybe with a CGI animated sequel trilogy with perhaps different actors playing the elder Luke,Han and Leia. But I don't know if Luceno will be around then but could be written by a younger author with the same passion for the original SW saga.
