I just finished the third chapter, which is about 50 pages into the book.
Now, I have been an admitted and unabashed hater of Sean Williams in recent years. Not because of his (co-authored) forgettable NJO books, but because The Force Unleashed sucked so hard. I wasn't entirely thrilled with the game, but I really expected an author who calls himself "the Emperor of Sci-Fi" in his "About the Author" section of his books to bang out a fantastic read.
But wow, I've almost done a complete turnaround on Williams. Granted, the book could tank... but I really doubt it will. All of the flaws of The Force Unleashed, like the glaring fact that it read like an actual play-by-play of the video game, simply don't exist here. Maybe it's because he actually gets a chance to really build up the picture of the universe here, but he has done a heck of a job so far. It's not, by any stretch, one of the best Star Wars novels. But it's a really great, and fun, read so far.
