Her role in the original trilogy is a key ingredient to its greatness. And in the EU she not only marries Han, gives birth to Anakin Solo, but also goes on to train under Saba and kick butt at every opportunity. Oh, and she was the Chief of State...of Coruscant. Coruscant sucks Wookiee in comparison. "Oh I'm a big city planet!" Lame. There are lots of city planets in the Star Wars galaxy, Coruscant just gets more attention. How can a planet possibly compete with the one of the most epic female characters in the Star Wars universe? Now I shall break out the Death Star and destroy Coruscant. _________________

Good or bad its a lasting image that goes way further than Coruscant. Just look at how many times that particular outfit has shown up in pop culture since then.
