I heard the prequels were more difficult to convert to 3D than the originals, due to their having been filmed digitally. I don't remember why that was. 3D conversion is probably not difficult to do effectively if given sufficient time, but I imagine it's extremely monotonous and time consuming because you have to take every single frame and separate the elements in the image into different layers.

The release date for Episode 1 in 3D has been set for 2/10/2012 http://www.theforce.net/latestnews/story/The_Phantom_Menace_3D_Gets_A_Release_Date_136942.asp

I feel kinda indifferent. It will be nice to have the movies back in theaters though.

You know, this could still be the first movie I see in 3D Very Happy

Me too. Second time around with the PT; third time with the OT -- if I live that long. Smile

I'm actually much more excited about this than I was initially. I still have very little interest in the 3D part, but I really can't resist watching these on the big screen again, probably for the last time (didn't they say that with the special editions? ) I've even met some fellow Star Wars fans in my area that I'll go with for the midnight release of TPM. I just wish we knew how long the wait was going to be between film releases!

I thought it was supposed to be one film a year? 2012 is Episode I, 2013 would be Episode II, and so forth.

That was the speculation, but I don't think they've officially announced the release schedule past Episode I. I could be wrong...

Never seen a 3D film, but I'm definitely exited to see them at the Cinema. Mainly to see New Hope and the Empire Strikes back, as they're the only two I was unable to watch at release (I wasn't born lol)

I wonder how much money these movies are expected to make. On the one hand everyone has virtually memorized them, but on the other hand it is Star Wars.

Well you have to remember there's a new generation that hasn't seen the PT on the big screen. There's a couple of generations that haven't seen the OT on the big screen.

One thing I am excited about is that all three of my sons will now get to see the OT on the big screen. My oldest saw them with me when they were originally released, and my second son saw them (with me of course) when they were released for the 20th anniversary. Now my youngest son will get to see them.

I feel the same way about some of my younger cousins. They didn't see any of the films in theaters, so it will be a great chance for them.

I'm interested in seeing the first "Special Edition" for the PT. I want to know how much Lucas changes with them since he had the ability to make them the way he wanted to in the first place.

Is it still rumored that we'll get the CG Yoda in TPM, or has that been shot down?
