Hey Nedara! I'm curious- what is your primary language?

I'm sorry Reep - I'm not sure if you did this on purpose - but that cracked me up! It just made me think of 3P0: "Protocol? Why, it's my primary function!" Nedara, do you speak Bocce?

Not I, but there's got to be a useful droid around here somewhere... good help is so hard to find.

Well, if you don't find it, I'm sure we can build one... or hire someone who can build it.

If you build it, understanding will come.

Maybe. But why would someone do something when he/she can hire someone for the job?

IR2, you know I'm always ready for a good discussion, but, you know, I'm a little busy lately. Now, I'm in a Star Wars association here, in "Theed" where I live, and I have to make my custome. And I have a lot of books to read and translate-it's the better way to learn vocabulary and understand every single nuance.

Costume- nice! That's always cool! Enjoy it! (not like I need to tell you!)

And the translating thing must make things a little hard to keep up huh?

I never thought about having a costume before, but then I went to the hospital to visit children last Christmas. It was my best experience as fan by far. Children's wide eyes, the look in their faces, their pure joy. Well it's... it had no price. They didn't care ever the little toys we gave them. They only wanted to take our lightsabers and fight the bad guys. You know, it made me feel proud of being a fan. Making them forget where they were and why... It was magic.

Ooops, I'm being a littel sentimental, sorry. But a child's smile is the best in the world and being able to make ill children to smile can't be compared with any other experience, IMO.

Well, I usually read the book or comic first, so I got the overall story. Then I translated to undertand little details. But it's a big work, because there are a lot of things don't have an "official" translation. And what has been translated officially... Well, it's better if we don't talk about it.

You mean translations have not been of the best quality? I'm curious, because I only know smatterings of several other languages. Not enough to read an entire book, though.

The best? They haven't been even the worst. I'm not talking about missing pages-that happened more than once-but simple mistakes than a child wouldn't make.

I'll give you an example. In Milleniun Falcon cover it's said Jacen was Han's and Leia's... BROTHER!

You can ask all you want. It'll be a pleasure to answer. I'm from Spain, so I speak Spanish.

Spain! Well that's awesome. Come to think of it, I want to say Flyboy is from Spain. But he hasn't been around in a long while...

I'm absolutely shocked that the translations for Spanish wouldn't be better, though. You should complain. Confused

I just don't read Star Wars in Spanish any more. I buy the novels in English and then, I translated them. It's the only way to have something coherent.

Another little proof. And this one is even worse. In The Clone Wars: Espacio Salvaje (TCW: Wild Space) Palpatine was a former Senator woman.

Laughing On the one hand it's funny.

But on the other hand it's distressing! You shouldn't have to read them in English to understand them. Somebody should be doing better translating. Star Wars in an international market, after all. I dunno...now I'm curious to see who handles such matters.
