Musical Bliss: everything music...

Found a band that has some pretty wild sounds that I kinda like: Grinderman. Currently enjoying their second album. Mickey Mouse and the Goodbye Man, Palaces of Montezuma, When My Baby Comes, and Worm Tamer have made my playlist.

Did anyone know that you can search Amazon's MP3 directory for all of their free MP3's? Kind of neat but tedious. Lot of free music, but only some of it is any good. Still, free music is free music. Very Happy

When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes.

I'm debating with myself whether or not this is my favourite album of theirs. It's up against Paper Walls. There are a lot of really good songs on here. Hang You Up is just the perfect single, Sing For Me is stunningly beautiful and With You Around is very remniscient of the Ocean Avenue days (complete with an Only One reference!). For You And Your Denial is an interesting one. I interpret it as Ryan singing to himself about his struggles with letting go- something that I can relate to. But as I listened to it, I'm pretty sure it's Ryan singing to himself. Be the Young is epic! I don't know if this is what they were going for but it really reminds me of my longing for heaven. I always imagine it as childhood. Growing up sucks.

See I see Yellowcard's new album as the accumulation of all learned over a career. Paper Walls was a good album but I honestly liked Lights & Sounds better. Ocean Avenue was their first album with this singer and its where they got good, but with When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes I think they nailed it perfect. I love the song Soundtrack due to its kind of attempt to make a song that is not only a soundtrack song, but also one that attempts to be a soundtrack to an emotion or situation while acknowledging it. Sing To Me was amazing, I'll be with you on that one. No other comment on that song needed. For You, and Your Denial feels like the big single balance but with some of both their classic feel as well as their newer feel for a culmination that supersedes both. I dunno, its just wound up being my favorite album Smile

I don't listen to music, and if it is playing in a store or somewhere else, I block it out. Silence, for me, is preferred.

^ I can't imagine life without music. I honestly think I'd go crazy without it.

@Caedus: I liked Lights and Sounds and appreciate its artistry but it's so darn depressing. It can really mess with you if you listen to it at the wrong time. Paper Walls on the other hand always puts me in a good mood.

@Reep: See Lights & Sounds to me was kind of a pinnacle out of those three major label albums. It was a tad depressing yes, but overall I thought it displayed more maturity to me than Ocean Avenue. I think Paper Walls was more of a return to form in that it was fun and exciting but I feel they didn't take a step backwards but took steps to appeal more to those who weren't up for that darker subject material. For You, and Your Denial feels like a summit. It feels like they finally found a way to present darker subject material in a way that more can enjoy and I'm excited about that.

Well, I used to not listen to music at all. I got into music around the same time I got into reading (around 16ish) and it was down to a young woman named Katie Melua. I very much enjoyed her first two albums and, while her other two are okay, they're not really what I call 'The Melua Sound'. Which sounds like the name of a Twilight Zone episode. If I want a nice, soothing, bluesy sound, I go to the earlier, mellower Melua.

Erm, if you've not heard of her, her name is actually pronounced 'mellowa' so I was being quite smart there. Since it doesn't really happen that often I just wanted to point it out...Carry on Rolling Eyes

Lately I've been listening to a band called Morella's Forest. They're an obscure indie band from the 90's so I'll give anyone a medal if they've heard of them. Razz
