Great to hear Also, if those of you who listen via Itunes could take a few minutes to write a review or leave a star rating, we'd be very appreciative. This show, perhaps more than others, relies on listener feedback to keep going.

We're looking at starting to record the May episode tomorrow. Andrew and I will be recording reviews of Invasion: Rescues and First Blood (from Insider). We will later record another review for the episode, this time of "Blood Ties." We *may* review the new story in Dark Horse Presents, but that might end up just being me, depending on whether Andrew gets the issue.

I'll be doing a pair of retro reviews for the episode as well, covering the Lando and Han books by Smith and Daley, respectively.

The May episode is in the bag for May 17. We are planning on Conviction in June and have review copies on the way to us. I'm planning to hit the FCBD comic, thanks to Wookie_Inked, who helped me get a copy that is in the mail right now.

I'm now seeking suggestions for future installments of our video series on Facebook, the Visual Showcase video reviews.

Nice podcast there, guys! Thanks for doing the Han Solo and Lando Calrissian reviews! It certainly proved insightful, and I will be keeping an eye out for the Han Solo Adventures.

I did wonder, though, if the simple difference, when you say 'take out the characters and they could be any generic sci-fi universe'. that it could be attributed to the simple lack of the Force and Force-users? These two, and the other you cite, Deathtroopers, have no Force users to speak of.

I read the NJO novels oh so many years ago but I haven't tried the Invasion comic series. Now that there's more than one trade availible maybe I will finally read it.

I guess my hesitation is something like Andrew's and Nathan's, I'm lukewarm on the era too. 19 books was a hell of a lot of literature in which the Vong War was well explained, there were no gaps left behind, there was no ground that was left uncovered. I'm not sure what else needed to be added to the NJO mythos that required a comic book to tell the tales.

I actually disagree with you guys here. My problem with the New Jedi Order series was that they seemed to portray the Yuuzhan Vong invasion as apocalyptic, but we only ever saw a small portion of these battles (certainly not enough to cause 365 trillion deaths).

I like that we're seeing something else. But I would hope that future arcs avoid Luke and co a bit. By having Finn and others work apart from the rest, we get a broader sense of the conflict AND avoid continuity problems with the main NJO characters.

What I'd also like is for every issue to start with "This takes place in 25 ABY, shortly before the events of Dark Tide I" or something like that. So we know how far along the war is.

Nathan,

I just finished listening to Episode 16.5 (great episode, by the way; really captured the experience of your typical convention). I wanted to share an experience that related to a question you asked in the panel on accessibility.

I was at Chapters a little while ago, checking out the Star Wars section as usual, and saw someone else looking at the books really closely. He picked up Legacy of the Force: Betrayal and gave it a good look. He was about to buy it and I asked "Have you read many of these?" He said no, he never read a Star Wars book. I told him to put it back, that it told stories about Han and Leia's fully grown-up children. He thanked me, and asked for a recommendation. I sold him the Thrawn Trilogy, and boasted I own and read the vast majority of the Star Wars books and comics. We discussed comics for a moment, and I sold him an omnibus (I think Tales of the Jedi Vol. 1).

I didn't get a commission for selling $50 of merchandise Smile

My point is, that indeed there's such a large backstory, and people starting at Legacy of the Force or Fate of the Jedi are missing too much backstory.

I started reading at the NJO, and slowly backfilled the collection (in terms of buying and reading). The NJO always gave good background on events from other books, and then I'd just be sure to read the book they referred to next (e.g. I read the Corellian Trilogy fairly quickly after Agents of Chaos). And now, the only books I haven't read are X-Wing 2-9 and The New Rebellion (the only books I don't own are Specter of the Past and Vision of the Future, but I read library copies).

I'm hoping that the 20th anniversary re-release of Heir to the Empire will re-vitalise interest in the EU. They should make a nice book timeline, arranged by release date (keeping series together), so that new readers will know where to start. So that a poor soul exploring the Star Wars shelf at the bookstore won't accidentally buy Conviction and be completely lost.

Anyways, that's my 2 cents.

The Obscure Side #10 is now available. This one is not necessarily for everyone, given the subject matter. It covers four books discussing Star Wars and some form of theology, mostly Christianity. Included are:

The Force of Star Wars (also known as Unlocking the Mystery of the Force)
Star Wars: Jesus
The Gospel According to Star Wars
Star Wars and Philosophy

The new episode is here:

http://www.solosound.net/eu-review/3032/

(Next week, it will be an Obscure Side on Star Wars and mythology with two books and two DVDs reviewed.)
