Hey Mara- perhaps add a sentence about the Cantina being named after a reference to the classic Bounty Hunter and Smuggler holodrama Fist Full of Credits? That way other readers won't get hung up for a minute?

Oh I like that! I could definitely see that as having great potential. Perhaps in the context of the Knights of Pain the "acts of skill" refer to the brutality of a kill? If a kill is especially brutal/slow (and very painful) the individual gets rewarded with a hash mark.

Don't know if you like this but we could also introduce "marks of shame" for kills that were quick/merciful. Get too many marks of shame and then an individual seeking a fast promotion or significant prestige can have a shot at executing the shamed individual. Success results in instant promotion regardless of whether they have enough hash marks (or significant prestige if maximum rank has been achieved), failure to go above and beyond cruelty results in a mark of shame for failing to be capable of executing a person of such low standing.


YES! It stands to reason that a heirarchical cults would have a shunning system (and productive ways of getting rid of undesirables) plus it gives the whole group an undercurrent of fear which acts as another driving force! I'm loving it, Vorn!

That is to say, I'm loving exploring the minutia of a pain-obsessed Sith cult. I think I may have to book a stay in the nearest loony bin Confused

...

I'm really enjoying how you've helped add real depth to the Knights. They've really evolved to be much more complex with the whole cult angle with rank patches and honor/shame system (thanks again for the drawings!).

Regarding your last post in the RPG I have a continuity question: The Knights landed around the same time Will and the rescue squad did. You're last post (Life) set a Knight scout as appearing on the scene a few hours before Jayda reached the Cantina.

Now here's my continuity issue: as I had understood it Jayda's entering the Cantina was roughly contemporaneous with Will's story thus far. So I just want to clarify whether the ship that Will observed should be treated as reinforcements to the scouting party Jax and Doc have run into or whether I should clarify that Will's story (as it is right now) is a few hours behind Jayda's arrival at the Cantina and that there is only one shipment of Knights.

I'm fine either way but I thought I'd better clarify this before creating a post with a continuity problem that "could create a time paradox, the results of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space time continuum, and destroy the entire universe." Wink

Hehe. No, no, everything's fine. It's normal to send scouts ahead of the main force, so I took that premise and applied it to the Knights, too. It's not technically accurate to call them reinforcements, as they'd be reinforcing a very, very small group! Just think of the scouts as the vanguard - the people forces send ahead of the main group to gather intelligence, prepare groundwork, stuff like that. I'll include a line in my next post that says it's possible that they're a vanguard, and/or that the main force is yet to come, or something like that. In fact, that could be why they're in a bar. Jax and Doc are looking for transport, too. And, when they meet Jayda, they resort to - eep! I've forgotten what we'd agreed on as the next course of action! Will go back and look. Anyhoozelbees, there's no need to change anything. All facts are correct - it's just that I need to clarify one point next time round.

In the mean time, I've just had an idea. Would it be a good time to introduce a leader of the Knights of Pain in my next post? Not so much as a main character who we'll have a POV from, just as someone who pops up with the scouts, and we can take him or leave him at a later date. I'm thinking something along the lines of red robes that are a variation of a costume that Starkiller wears, with the shield insignia carved, literally carved, onto his forehead.

Vorn, they're really your 'baby', as it were. The main mythos was all yours! Though I will take your thanks in regards to the drawings! Wink

Found it! Okay, I think a few of the details have changed since last updated, but the gist is:

4-After expanding their search and changing up the way they are searching, the rescue team are ambushed by the Knights of Pain and, at the same time, the trio walk into the fight and, Jax seeing they're almost the same group, leaps in. (perhpas this one should be backwards- the Knights of Pain should find Jaydah and Doc and Jax and Will's team sees all the saber and blaster fight and jumps in?)
5-They either win the fight, drive off their attackers, or retreat and attempt to lose them.
6-They reunite, and continue to look for Modero (but soon realize he's vanished without a trace.
7- Head back to the Saber's Hilt.
8- Hilt sends Rep, Trix and a few other Jedi Guardians to escort the Jedi Masters in a shuttle to Coruscant before making the next jump on their original mission- but Reaver sabotaged the Jump Drive- it tells them they went to (Kassykk- just saying we'll figure out a name later) but they are really at the planet of Reaver's library- (Will have to re look that up for the story)
9- Reaver gets his artifact- the one that survives- so angered by what has become of his library he vows to destroy ALL Force Users. Or at most enslave them all to his will since the one artifact he was able to find is big bad voodoo evilness.
10- A shuttle is sent to the planet to track Reaver (or who Reaver's IN more likely) 11- we can decide how long to play that out-
12- Reaver and the Jedi come back aboard (we'll need to work that out still)
13- when they go to jump again BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM 10 (or so) years later for those in the galaxy - unknown amount of time later for those on the ship- though those on the ship LIVED through that time.
14- Hilt returns and sets off a beacon - the becon tells the Hilt to stay put while a rescue team comes to find it (no problem since it may be sitting derelict since most survivors are dead or turned to Reavers will. (perhaps Reaver's bent on hunting the survivors on the Hilt- his personal mission)
15- Rep and Jedi from the galaxy arrive find the ship floating in space and board- find all sorts of fun awaiting them....

I can totally see introducing squad leaders or platoon leaders of the Sullust landing party as plausible. I'd originally created the Knights to be equally proficient military group of Sith as a match to the Jedi Commandos (both groups being proficient in solo work and unit tactics). So for combat I'd like to keep the Knights as having maintained a very military based unit organization, which might also explain how they were able to seize control from less organized underworld organizations. Thus far the cult angle meshes perfectly with this as we've maintained a good hierarchy that should translate fine into military unit organizations.

EDIT: on that note I would say the circular patch could be worn by squad leaders with only Knights in higher command positions wearing the pointed shield patch (we can figure out what command level the cutoff is for circular/pointed shield patch is as the cult angle develops). The regular guys without leadership roles can perhaps wear the hand patch (or some variation of it).

I really like the uniform concept art! Might I suggest we save that as the uniform for the heads of the cult and/or worn by elite torturers/interrogators? It seems a bit ornate for a field uniform. Something I envisioned with both the Jedi Commandos and Knights of Pain was that they wore a blend of conventional military type clothing/armor and civilian clothing/armor that would allow them to pass as spacers/mercs (playing into the whole covert-ops). As a cult we do need ornate stuff for the Knights in ceremonies but I'd like to keep their field equipment closer to a hybrid military/spacer/merc style.

Regarding any field uniforms I would continue on with what you established with Doc's analysis, namely a degree of individuality for each Knight which is at least partially based on specialty. I think though there should be some degree of noticeable uniform when seen as a group. Your totally free to interpret how much standardization goes into their pirate uniform and I'd certainly like to see how we can get creative with squad/platoon/etc. variation.

On the note of the crest being carved into his head: it reminded me of the old game TIE Fighter which included a segment of induction into the Emperor's "Secret Order" where the members are marked by a special tattoo on their forearm. Just tossing the idea out there but we could expand on your idea to make it a designation of special status within the cult. I have no idea what exactly the requirement for entry would be (perhaps you would care to indulge your interest in exploring the minutia of a pain-obsessed Sith cult?). The idea that the guy is just engaging in self mutilation is equally fitting for a Knight of Pain (for example maybe he wants to honor their founder Darth Sion by also living in pain?)

Hey so I'm preping the next post for Will's story and was trying to work out the names of the rest of the rescue squad. I was thinking how with have the minor character Azel Ketara who we don't have any place for (I'm unaware of her ever being mentioned by name in the Hoth mission). So I don't think it will hurt any continuity to include her the the rescue squad but I wanted to run that by everyone before I include Ketara in the rescue squad as one of the Jedi Guardians.

Sorry to pick your brains again - I promise I'll leave them in good working order once I'm done. Mostly. - A thought occurred to me about the Knights. I remember them being a Force cult, with Force powers, lightsabres and 'I'm with stupid Dark Side' t-shirts in your flashback posts. As they are now, they've degenerated and changed from that cult into what they are now. But I was wondering, do they, or at least some of them, still have Force powers? Do they still use lightsabres?

Nothing in specific. This will be my first foray into the joint effort, so I'll follow your lead. I can clue you in on what they're thinking, if that helps. Jax goes to the bar to get a drink and chat up some random woman, acting, for all to see, carefree and oblivious to the goings on around him, yet he is keeping an eye on Doc - just as Doc is keeping an eye on him. Much like that Cantina scene in AOTC. Doc, for his part, is in repose, running through events and scanning the bar for anything that doesn't add up. The key thought in their minds is that, for once, they discounted the Mando in the corner as a threat, thinking that the Knights wouldn't hire out, instead keeping it 'within the family', as it were. Use that fact however you will.

However, I did want to include one bit of dialogue, which, if you get round to introductions between the three first, I'd really like it if you included it:

EDIT: @ Mara and Life: I've also really enjoyed how you guys picked up on "Fistful of Credits"

EDIT 2: Just went searching back through the Hoth adventure and found Azel Ketara. So she is mentioned by name there, my bad for thinking we hadn't actually fit her in yet as a named character. I'll figure out an alternate character name in place of using her.
