I have read almost every novel published and there they can still make a difference, communicating through the force and guiding those they care about it even if they do not exist any more in the flesh but in the spirit of the force

With my points I made in my earlier posts above, that Vestara reminds Ben of Mara, and that is why he feels such a strong attraction for her.

I doubt they'd start using out-dated psychology ideals in Ben's adolescent development. The Oedipus complex and the psycho-sexual stages of development have actually been proven to have very little bearing on real psychology today. I'd be super annoyed if FotJ went with a rather annoying stereotype instead of doing research and doing something more interesting.

Frankly, I'm a bit annoyed that they're setting up the woman that, in all likeliness, will become Ben's life-partner, when he's 16 years old.

I know that, in real life, that can happen. People have married their high school or childhood sweethearts. But it's soooooo rare. And it's soooo obvious they're setting it up. Unless they throw a curveball and kill her off in Apocalypse.

Actually, that'd be cool. If she threw herself on a Sith blade to sacrifice herself to save Ben. That would be excellent character development, showing that she went from born-and-raised Sith to be redeemed to the Light.

I'm with Taral in that I'm halfway hoping that Vestara will die at the end of FotJ. If only because they've been so heavy handed with the teen flirting.

How similar are Vestara and Mara really. Other then red hair and having been taught to use the dark side at a young age they are extremely different in my mind. The personality of Vestara in no way reminds me of Mara.

It's possible that I've been focusing more on the differences between Mara and Vestara rather than their similarities, but I find it's a very different situation. For the record I love both of them (not equally, but Vestara is new).
The main difference I see between them is the evilness. Mara wasn't really evil. She had an evil boss, but even when she doing immoral stuff the authors (or maybe just Mr. Zahn) try to make sure that you know they are struggling to do the right thing.
Vestara might be irredeemably evil. I kind of like that the characters (mostly Ben) are imprinting their experiences with Mara upon Vestara. We're all kind of assuming she's going to come around eventually. But she's not Mara, maybe she won't switch sides. That would be a fun embarrassing twist, having Vestara as the big bad at the end.
About all this happening while Ben's so young, meh. It's slightly maddening that Jaina is still childless at this point. Allana is getting pretty lonely. And I want babies. This isn't a sitcom, it's going to go on for a while longer (hoping and praying over here) this generation need to start procreating. I'm always hoping for something slightly scandalous to happen like Ben gets Vestara pregnant and then she stays evil. Then we have a custody battle of epic proportions. Or maybe Jaina sleeps with Kyp or Zekk and then they die and she marries Jag. That would be fun... I might need to calm down now.

On the point of Vestara getting killed. Who would replace her as Ben's romantical interest?
