I understand that, but it seems a pretty idiotic way to punish him. Why didn't he make Jones destroy his music box or some sort of memento he holds dear instead of the freaking most powerful force at sea in the world. The cons outweigh the pros. And the whole idea of Jones disobeying Beckett seems needed only to kill the Kraken. Davy Jones showed his humiliation serving under Beckett clear enough without it.

I think they liked the Kraken in the second one but wanted to go another direction for the third one so they came up with some crap reason. In fact much of the third one seems based on crap explanations for things.

I LOVED the fourth movie. I personally think the third pirates was better than the second, mainly because nothing of value happened in the second. It was a loverly long lead in to the third, where too much happened. I would have preferred the plot to have been spread out more.

I saw it. I'm too tired to review it right now. For now though I'll say it was better than Pirates 3 but not near as good as the first two.

I liked it more than three, maybe more than two. If it had just been a little shorter, it would have been perfect.

I thought Blackbeard was a decent character, but not on the level of Davy Jones. Barbossa was excellent as always. It was interesting not having Will or Elizabeth, but I think that worked very well. As for Jack - best version of his character since the first film. By far. And Penelope Cruz didn't annoy me too much, which was a factor I had been counting on going in. She looked extremely annoying in the previews.

There were great moments of humor, action, suspense, and though the romance stuff was a little excessive (compared to other the Pirate films), it didn't make me cringe like scenes from Thor.

Like I said last night, better than 3 but not nearly as good as 1 and 2. Jack, Barbossa and Gibbs were all good but I would've liked some development with them. I'm not sure if I can even review this right now because I was so overwhelmed by the different-ness of it. No Will, no Elizabeth, no Pintell and Ragetti, no Mullroy and Murtog, no Davy Jones, no Norrignton, no Black Pearl (this really surprised me!), no Tortuga, no Port Royal etc. Whenever sequels do this it tends to throw me off. Even with Prince Caspian- and I had read the book many times! I really did like though how this movie felt a lot more like an actual pirate movie than the last one did. I found Blackbeard incredibly bland which surprised me. I'm not sure how you can even make Blackbeard bland (I mean he's Blackbeard) but Ian McShane managed to do it. I also found the magic sword and zombies really unnecessary. I would've preferred if he were just an ordinary pirate. Well not ordinary... you know what I mean. The idea was neat; having the question of are there truly irredeemable people but the execution was... uninspired. Angelica was decent. The missionary and the mermaid were surprisingly good. I thought I would hate them. I was pleased that the missionary had a sympathetic portrayal. I mean do you know who hard it is to get a Christian character in a movie who isn't a maniac, a heretic or a wuss (well some people may have thought he was a wuss but I thought he was good). I always have a soft spot for innocence in stories especially when it's being exploited by other greedy characters so the mermaid struck a chord with me. The whole subplot about the mermaid's tears was, for me, the heart of the movie. The humour wasn't as wacky as it was in At World's End but it didn't quite hit the quality of the first two movies. So I'm just a bit muddled at the moment. It was very different (even the overall feel of it) and characters I thought I would love I just didn't and characters I thought I would dislike I actually liked. I'll probably have to see it again before I can really judge it and I may like it far better or far worse than I did the first time but until then I stand by my original statement.

The credit "Suggested by the book..." made me laugh. They should've put that credit in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Razz

Okay, so this is showing in both 2D and 3D. What do you all think of the 3D version, or has no one seen it in that yet?

I'm not sure what more I can say about Blackbeard. I just found him uninteresting as a villain. Compare him to Davy Jones or Barbossa and you'll see what I mean. Angelica didn't irritate me, but I didn't terribly like her. Kind of like Blackbeard. What does the magic sword even do? It steers the ship. Oh great we won't need the steering wheel anymore. Rolling Eyes

However I don't want this to sound too negative because the more I think about Pirates 4 the more I like it. The exact opposite of Pirates 3.

See I thought the sword was cool. It controls other ships to, remember? Its how he got the Black Pearl! I thought he could have been better but for a single story villain I liked him. And yes, Pirates 4 gets better when I remember it. And yes, Davy Jones was better. I loved him and I always will.
