I used to occasionally seek out spoilers. When Legacy of the Force came out, I was still buying paperbacks only. So when Sacrifice was released, and I knew "someone" died, and I knew Jacen took his Sith name, but I also knew that I wouldn't be reading the story for a whole year, I thought it best to just spoil it for myself. So I went on Wookieepedia and read that:

Mara Jade dies and Jacen becomes Darth Caedus.
For me, knowing the end isn't a terrible thing. It's the journey that's important. Like when watching an old episode of Star Trek that you hadn't seen before, and it looks like Kirk is in so deep that he can't possibly survive, but you know he survives, since he appears in every subsequent episode and 7 movies. The fun is getting there.
