X-Wing: Mercy Kill by Aaron Allston

While I'm not more excited about this than any other (Revan, Kemp duology, Plagueis, FOTJ, Riptide) it's most definitely up there. One thing that struck me as odd, the name seemed a little too dark for a wraith squadron novel, but now that I've thought about it I don't know if that holds true. It still seems a little odd, but it's growing on me.

The title definitely struck me as being odd at first, but the more I turn it over in my head the more I dig it.

It reminds me of Iron Fist. Perhaps it might be the name of a ship?

Well, from what Aaron has said, this book alternates between 44 ABY (tail end of FotJ) and sometime after they're transferred out of Starfighter Command to become an intel unit. So, it's possible parts of this book are NJO.

I'm excited to read the X-Wing omnibus collections. I've never read any of those comics!

Between Stackpole and Allston's X-wing novels, I have to with Allston. But that's soley because I think he did a better judge balancing the cast. Stackpole focused on a small group of characters within Rouge Squadron while Allston spread the love around far more. There are characters who were in all four Rouge Squadron books that were barely developed while Allston managed to give personalities to all his characters, even those that died early on.

That said, I still put any X-wing novel above any other Star Wars novel in terms of enjoyment.

There's only one solution to this "problem."

Get Michael Stackpole to write another Rogue book after this one is released.
