Earlier today I was reading this article on msn. It listed ten things you should never do on Facebook. Then that got me thinking into other 'internet rules'. Like 'Rule 34 - if it exists, there's a porn of it'. Or 'whoever mentions Hitler first in a disagreement - loses it'. Not just Dos and Don'ts, but things taken as fact of social etiquette in the internet community.

So I just thought it'd be fun to jot down all these rules in one place, discuss the validity of said things and so on. I'll stop now.

That doesn't mean I prefer the PT over the OT, or vice versa. That doesn't mean I hate the EU, or even love all of it. These are not prerequisites. Being a man is not a prerequisite. Being a geek is not a prerequisite. The only prerequisite is that I love something about Star Wars. I am a Star Wars fan.

As a starting off point, the ten rules from the above article:

- Do not tag your friends in embarrassing photos.

- Do not bombard people with game/group/quiz requests.

- Do not change your profile picture to a photo of your baby.

- Do not constantly moan about being depressed or under-appreciated (unless suffering from actual depression, or suffered familial/friend loss)

- Do not slag off your boss or friend

- do not send a friend request to your children, nieces and nephews.

- Do not Facestalk someone.

- Do not write wall posts or status updates in text speak.

- Do not dump someone by changing your status to single.

- Do not friend complete strangers.

And, of course, Rule 34.

As well as: The first person to mention Hitler in an argument - loses it.

-Do not speak in all caps.

-Try to be grammatically correct.

-Try and avoid perpetuating bad memes (this one is subjective, so only a recommendation and not a rule, I feel).

-If a friend asks you to stop sending him/her e-mail forwards, honour his/her request.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Rule 34 does not hold true. Ewok pron does not exist. Move along. Cool

Do not use social media to attack someone (cause you can't get by with attacking them on the site you both belong to). Boy, Ive' seen that one happen way too much.

Don't think the internet gives you some kind of anonymity to spam, troll or plagiarize. It doesn't.

...yet.

That's the caveat of Rule 34.

Actually if you want to support the website you're on it's a good idea to click on ads.
