I bought this in TPB a few months ago from Things From Another World when they were having a nick & dent sale. The cover looks gushy, and a lot of it is, but really what this comic ends up as is a massive fanservice of odd and end moments that are silly but entertaining.
First off many of the characters are drawn like real life actors. You've got Jack Nicholson as a ex-Imperial Guardsmen, Steve Buscemi as an Imp agent, Bruce Willis as Kam Solusar, Tommy Lee Jones, etc.
The story itself centers around Luke and Mara's wedding. The dialog can be a bit jumpy and offsetting at times, and the art isn't too bad, but it's colored like the old school comics, and seeing some of the characters as actors is sometime offsetting as well. The bad guys are corny...heck, most of the story is corny. And yet, it's almost as if they are spoofing on themselves.
And then there are scenes like Luke's bachelor party which are just priceless. You've got panels with Luke, Han, Lando, Wedge, Karrde, etc, etc all together in a bar. What could be better? A bar fight!
Across the way there's Mara and all her girl friends enjoying the night and they have their own fun as well. Stackpole tells the story through the whole wedding, from the annoying prep work and hassle of any wedding, to the tension of the day before, to the event itself. It's an odd and enjoyable story. Lighthearted, playful, silly, and enjoyable.
If you can find it at the library, borrow it from a friend, or get it for a cheap price, I'd suggest giving it a look. It's certainly one of the more weird pieces of the EU. _________________
