This may be a Star Wars board, but I shall be brave and post this anyway...

Whose your favorite wizard and why?

Just to refresh you on whose up for this glorious position, there's Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, the classic Merlin, and...well I'm sure there are others but my mind is drawing a blank.

GANDALF!

I can't think of any other wizards that I really like.

Harry Dresden would currently be mine. I find it hard to beat taking the T-rex skeleton of Sue in Chicago and bringing her back as a zombie to fight other zombies. That was soooo awesome! Laughing

I'm hard pressed to think of a favorite wizard.

"Called" being the key word. The other beings of Middle Earth didn't have a proper term for them, to my way of thinking.

I'm not sure I understand your point? That since they're not men but are Istari, they're not technically wizards? They're pretty consistently called wizards.

I'll go with Mithrandir for now, just because it sounds cool.

Gandalf is the equivalent of an angel. 'Wizard' is just what the common people call the Istari.

I always got the impression that Gandalf and his kind were "sent" to Middle Earth, in a manner of speaking, by God or whatever you want to call it in LotR terms. Kind of like angels, in a sense, rather than humans with magical powers. This logic is from my own reading of the books, so it may be flawed, but I have friends who follow the same line of thinking. Either way, Gandalf defeated a Balrog, died, and then CAME BACK to help save Middle Earth's rear. He wins all the awards.

Gandalf is a wizard.

"As wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins, blah blah blah."

Case closed. Razz
