I'm not sure I understand your point? That since they're not men but are Istari, they're not technically wizards? They're pretty consistently called wizards.

I always got the impression that Gandalf and his kind were "sent" to Middle Earth, in a manner of speaking, by God or whatever you want to call it in LotR terms. Kind of like angels, in a sense, rather than humans with magical powers. This logic is from my own reading of the books, so it may be flawed, but I have friends who follow the same line of thinking. Either way, Gandalf defeated a Balrog, died, and then CAME BACK to help save Middle Earth's rear. He wins all the awards. _________________ All things die, Anakin Skywalker, even stars burn out.
