Somewhere in the United States, a small band of survivors gather at the local EU Cantina. They have planned for this day, though they had hoped it would never come. Outside there's an undead world craving brains. Together they must hold true and find a way to survive...

Skuldren walked into the cantina and dropped a heavy, army green duffel bag on an empty table. The sound caught the attention of several survivors scattered about.

"Gather round if you need any gear. I've got plenty of extra weapons and ammo."

I turn around sharply, adrenaline making my heart pump all the faster, ready for another attack from one of the Undead, yet it's the familiar, and in this case comforting, form of Skuldren. My heart settles down, my breath coming a little easier, yet that edge remains. Eagerly I make my way over to the duffel bag, exploring its contents, picking out an old Colt Revolver; it is covered in dirt, and what looks to be rust in some places, but kept in good condition where needed, and I holster it in my belt happily, picking up a few boxes of ammunition.

I walk over to the boarded window and peek through a spy-hole we'd bored out earlier. Nothing. I can't decide if that's a good or bad thing; the lack of Undead could mean they've gone on to more fertile feeding grounds. I chide myself mentally for thinking in such a way, of feeling a wan happiness that others will die in my stead. But, too, I am unnerved by the eerie silence. In some ways, that is more disheartening than the inhuman cries.

'Do we know how the infection is spreading, yet?' I ask the room at large.

"Not that I'm aware of," Reepicheep replies, setting down his spiced wine.

Next to Reepicheep's glass on the table lay his various plates of armour, his beloved rapier and newly-acquired broadsword. He had been hesitant to use the broadsword, not because he didn't consider it an honourable weapon like, say, a machine gun, but he just didn't want to part with his rapier. Over the years, a knight's blade became one of his closest friends. Countless times had this sword saved his life but, alas, a rapier was no weapon to use against a zombie. A zombie would not be stopped by a quick cut to a vital point, it had to be completely mown down. Reepicheep gives a sigh, slides his broadsword into his belt and goes back to his drink.

Ben glanced around at the small group of survivors. They were discouraged, tired, and fearful. Now was the perfect time for the spectacular motivational speech that inspiring leaders always give. He moved over to the bar and climbed on top of the counter.

"Listen up, my fellow Cantina members." he yelled, gazing down at the faces below him. "I address you tonight, not as the president of EUCantina. Not as the leader of a website. But as one on the last citizens of humanity.

I don't know what to say, really. Three minutes (or more), till the biggest battle of our professional lives. We're in hell right now, gentlemen. Believe me. We can stay here, get the #### kicked out of us... or, we can fight our way back, into the light. We can climb out of hell. One inch at a time. Now, I can't do it for ya. I'm too old. The margin for error is so small.... I mean - one half-a-step too late or too early, and you don't quite make it. On this team we fight for that inch! On this team, we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces, for that inch. We claw with our fingernails, for that inch! Because we know, when we add up all those inches, that's gonna make the difference between winning, and losing! Between living, and dying!

I'll tell ya this. In any fight, it's the guy who is willing to die, who is going to win that inch. Because that's what living is! The six inches in front of your face! Now, I can't make you do it. You gotta look at the guy next to ya, look into his eyes! Now I think you're gonna see a guy, who will go that inch with ya. You're gonna see a guy, who will sacrifice himself for this team, because he knows, when it comes down to it, you're gonna do the same for him. That's a team, gentlemen. And either we heal now, as a team... or we will die, as individuals. Now, what are you gonna do?

Without another word, Ben jumped back to the ground, staring at the members of EUCantina.

Padme considered Ben for a moment before directing her attention to the table, a corner of her mouth turning upward. "Well, I don't know about y'all, but I'm inspired," she said as she began her search for a pair of binoculars and several lightweight sidearms. There might be more powerful weapons to choose from here, but agility and speed is what she prized.

Glancing over at Life, she offered, "You can take this for what it's worth, but I've seen people turned by catching a wad of lovely Undead spit in the face as well as by receiving a bite,"

Caedus stood in the corner, calmly playing with his knife. He glanced around the room at the rest of the survivors, quietly contemplating who would be a survivor in this living hell. With the dead walking, no one was ever safe. His own wife and children dead after transformation, he knew loss and what it meant to try to survive in this new world.

"The dead infection seems to spread through fluids. Bites, saliva, even if you get there blood in your eyes or on a fresh cut. Best to keep most of your skin covered"

Skuldren picked up his assault rifle and racked the receiver back, loading a round in the chamber. With a full mag ready to go, he was prepared. He picked up another rifle, this one a bolt action with a scope, and slung it over his shoulder. With a couple pistols stashed in various holsters, he armed to the teeth.

He glanced over at Ben. "I'm ready for that extra inch, and as the others said, seems like the disease is fluid based, not airborne. Before we start killing zombies, we got any plans besides last stands and kill em all? So far the only thing I've seen is slow zombies. Reckon we could try and take back the town."

Caedus stepped forward

"I hear there's a CDC in town, and there's usually supplies in gas stations and stuff. Maybe living right outside town and exploring would hold us for awhile.

'Well, shucks, Ben, that was almost pretty.' I grinned at the old man, contemplating everyone's words. Suddenly, seeing them all, I felt severely under-protected. But that's just a product of the times, I guess. How can you feel safe, with all hell breaking loose out there? I turned to Caedus.

'I guess I'm in for an inch, too. We could get transport at the station, as well. I say we go for it. The question is, a small group, or a large one? Whatever. I'm in. Anything to get these motherfrakking Undead out of the motherfrakking town.'

Padme frowned slightly at her comrades, drumming her fingers on her utility belt. "Now, just take it easy, boys. I wanna take back this town just as much as the rest of you, but nothing good ever came of being too hasty. It's way too quiet out there. Almost....almost as if they're planning an ambush or something, if they're capable of that kind of thought. Making a break for the station might just get us all killed," She sighed, recalling how just that sort of recklessness had resulted for many of her friends. "Someone should test the waters, so to speak. I'd go. Anyone with me?"

Vorn was sitting at his usual corner table in his usual seat with his back to the wall. Next to his glass of mulled cider was his wakizashi and his katana which he had just finished cleaning and oiling. It had been a busy morning, just escaping his apartment had required killing quite a few zombies though his two sword had kept their keen edges.

Well count me in for surviving as a team Sheathing his wakizashi Vorn stood up and wandered over to see what weapons Skuldren had brought with him. It was a fine collection of assorted modern and more antique firearms as well as some other miscellaneous weapons of zombie destruction. He picked up two Kimber 1911s, very well maintained and he was very tempted to take them. Placing them back on the table he then picked up a recurve bow. Testing its draw weight it was quite sufficient for sending an arrow at a lethal zombie killing velocity. yes this should do quite nicely Vorn thought as he eased the string back and then picked up the quiver of forty arrows.

Seeing as I’m all outta bubble gum I guess there isn’t much left to do except kick some zombie arse. Count me in.

Caedus stepped forward.

I'll go with you, but we have to do it my way. They may not think like us, but they run in packs like hungry undead dogs. We have to go easy on this one. There's a Shell Station down the street, I say we try for it.

"Yeah, yeah, all right," Padme said with a roll of her eyes. She reached for a switchblade, tucking it into her boot for good measure. "If we're not back in, what, an hour, the others should probably consider us Undead,"

"Probably. I'm kinda nervous about taking the road, should we try the field in between here and the gas station? Caedus replied, completely oblivious to the eye-rolling, his ego up.

How much cover are we talking about with that field? Sure it gives us a clear field of fire but it will also make us stick out like walking cheeseburgers to those zombies if we have no cover to hide behind Vorn said returning from his table, katana and quiver strapped to his back, mulled cider in hand.
