So here we can post our character names, nicknames (if one is desired), equipment, skills or any other details (including any back story) you consider important.

I (or other mods/admins playing) will update the main post to keep details as current as possible.

Having not participated on a RP on this forum, I'm curious how this goes? For this particular thread, are we RPing ourselves, or characters we create, or we get to choose either?

Personally, I'm basing my character off of myself, but if you want to make up a character, then you can. Though do keep in mind that we're doing this in a real-world setting. The Force doesn't exist out here Laughing.

It's basically a communal story. You write a post based around your character, to advance the story along a bit. You can talk to others, and have them talk back, but as far as big, life-changing events go it's best to ask permission of the character owner, first.

I'm basically going to be Reepicheep from the Narnia books. There might be slight differences if needed.

Life nailed how you play (you can also check out the other "dead" RPGs to get an idea of how posting works). For record even though we have some other RPGs that are currently being unplayed you can always ask if it could be revived so you can join (no promise that the old players will still want to play but there is no harm in asking).

As for the zombie thread you can RP yourself or a character you create. Regardless of whether you play yourself or a character you can pick your name. You can jump in at any point provided you do it in a logical way.

The specific purpose of this thread is to keep things under control with player names etc. (basically functioning like the "dramatist persona" that is at the start of some Star Wars novels that gives you a quick reference to who the major characters are).

One final quick thing:
if you see "OOC" before text in a post it means "out of character" and is basically for the purpose of quick clarifications or comments like "is it ok if I do X in my next post" (more detailed discussion should be kept to a separate thread like this one).

"IC" means "in character" and basically used to keep things straight if you say something both in character and out of character in the same post.

I guess my character is basically an old man who greatly resembles Obi-Wan Kenobi and is named Ben. But as we are excluding the Force and sci-fi weapons, he's not a Jedi, and I guess he's not Obi-Wan. He's just old Ben, owner of the cantina.

My man is in his late 20's and covers his sadness at the loss of his family with a cocky attitude. He's relatively desensitized and see's the apocalypse as a way to finally be good with something. He's quick to take charge but very unsure as of where to go with it, and will readily look to either Ben (classic wise old man) or Padme (only female perspective) for advice or backup, and will regularly bow to their wishes. Likes to claim that he'll take care of himself above everyone else but can't stand to let anyone else die if he can help and will regularly over-risk to take care of anyone. Has no desire to lead.

Just a question here for everyone but since we're greenlighting having a talking mouse do we want to have limited sci-fi weaponry available? Not like stuff that can be bought at a store but allow a person to be an inventor (or know an inventor) who can create various cool gadgets or weapons?

I'd prefer to stick to real world weapons but, then again, look who's talking. Wink

Talking mouse i can deal with, but sci-fi zombie apocalypse just isn't my thing. Lasers and such makes it too easy, I say we stick to quickly emptying clips of bullets, blades, and baseball bats and such.

I would agree. Fighting a zombie with a tennis racquets when you're out of ammo is much more fun.

I'd like to know if we're following Walking Dead rules? In that franchise noise draws zombies in, meaning firing a weapon has to be saved for dire situations. Crossbows, knives, swords, and the like are more practical and avoidance is key. Also, are we open to finding and securing buildings? Or other groups of survivors working both with and against us?

No sci-fi weapons it is then.

With regard to rules I would agree with the gunfire/noises attract zombies (do we want to impose certain range limitations just so the people using firearms can be in on the action as much as melee specialists?). For now I think we should avoid having survivors working against us which might require much more plot than we currently have (from previous experience RPGs can die if you get too complex and spend more time hashing out what the plot is instead of just playing). We could involve other survivors as minor characters/cannon fodder. Once the RPG has really gained momentum I think we could work on more complex plots. Just my two cents.

I see no reason why we can't secure buildings, though I assume here that if we vacate new zombies would move in.

So far as these rules go I'll defer to the zombie movie fans as my knowledge comes from wikipedia and what I hear from friends.

I'm still pondering over my nickname. I'm not sure whether to make up something new (if so, I'm leaning toward "Sonny") or base it off my screen name ("Ami" like "Amidala" or "Mei" pronounced like the end of "Padme"). Any suggestions will be considered. Smile Anyway, once I decide, I'll edit my previous posts to reflect it. As for character/bio, my girl is in her very early twenties and lost many of her friends to the "we're young so we're invincible" complex once the infection broke out. As a result, she may seem a bit overly cautious at times or even reluctant to begin a fight, but when the occasion calls for it, is mercilessly violent.

Also, my knowledge of specific weapons is vastly limited, so if anyone wants to offer suggestions there in order to make things more authentic, I'd be more than open.

Oh, one more thing. Are we doing this in the first or third person? Or does it matter?

I think a healthy mix of first and 3rd person perspectives could work, but could also confuse quite quickly. Look at my post and the one after it recently, it shows a good example of them tying together (I got my post saved on that one, as it didn't flow as well till the outside perspective). As to weapons would you prefer Melee or Ranged or Close Combat Carbine or what are you thinking here?
