I would like to ask why George Lucas HAD to use Mandalore as the pacifist planet in TCW. There are hundreds of planets in the Galaxy, or he could just make a new planet.

And why did he HAVE to use Even Piell as a Jedi that dies in that one episode that wiped out at least a books worth of canon? There are plenty of Jedi about at the time of the Clone Wars.

It makes of wonder whether Leland Chee is doing his job properly. Neither Mandalore or Piell seem to be integral to the plot and could very easily be replaced with another planet/Jedi.

I dunno, I like the retcons Smile

In my view, it's Lucas's sandbox. Leland can yell and scream all he wants, but if Lucas wants to use Mandalore or Even Piell, then so be it.

And Mandalore has already been retconned neatly (all the civilizations of Mandalorians existed, planets are big, Satine was deposed by Spar after the Empire rose). I don't know if they did anything about Piell yet.

That doesn't come close to fixing it. How is the planet irradiated in the clone wars (TCW), but perfectly normal in the clone wars (Republic/Imperial Commando). And where did all the mandalorians who actually fought during the war come from?

I wish they'd decided to use different plannets in the Mandalore system instead. Since it was established in the Essential Atlas that there are two habitable planets in the system - Mandalore itself and Kalevala - it would make sense to move everything from TCW to Kalevala, especially since Palpy references a bombardment of it killing one of Satine's counsellors during "Dutchess of Mandalore".

Planets are big though. The trope in all sci-fi is that planets appear to be mono-environmental. Why though? The Earth isn't. An easy solution is that some of the planet (mayhap one large continent) is irradiated, but is still inhabited by the New Mandalorians (maybe the land is Holy, or maybe it's a reminder of why they're pacifist; a representation of the harm that War can bring).

The other Mandalorians are traditionally farmers and others who work the land, so they might be on another continent that is still fertile.

All of this is moot by the Yuuzhan Vong War, since the YV bombarded the whole planet near the end of the war.
