As I understand it, you can use Force Storm all you want without damaging your alignment; you're just using it at a Force power "tax" if you're a lightsider. Alignment is determined by how you treat NPCs. Similarly, for all intents and purposes Kyle Katarn in Jedi Outcast or Jaden Korr in Jedi Academy can use lightning with impunity; you get some vague warning from your mentor when you learn some dark side techniques, but that's about it.

( Of course, I think it is important to see this as an issue of gameplay mechanics rather than an expression of the "canon" position on lightning. We notably never see Jedi casting lightning in the films, while Lucas indicates on the AOTC commentary that its appearance identifies darksiders. )

In a similar vein, we do see Luke seeming to Force Choke those Gamorreans. I'd always considered that a darksider thing. Wouldn't that indicate a darksider, too?

Though, of course, Luke was Luke, and wasn't alltogether aware of the rules and regulations and the dos and don'ts of being a Jedi, so he probably didn't realise he should have done that.

Still, even the Solo kids could feel cold evil at a young age, and they weren't born as inherently strong as their good ol' Uncle Luke.

*Gasps* I hadn't ever thought about Luke Force choking those poor Gamorreans. Hmm, yeah, I can't see that being twisted as any kind of lightside/neutral power. That was straight up dark side. It's also pretty good material for arguing the potentium theory.

Luke probably had a bit DS in him at the time of ROTJ. Remember that Palpatine turned Luke almost totallt to the DS at one point.

Back to Revan. When Playing KOTOR as a LS Jedi, if you have a high Charisma level you can use DS abilities without a big penalty. I did it with LS Revan!

True, it is just an application of telekinesis, but it is applied in an aggressive, harmful manner to another being. I'd have thought that would place it in the Dark Side column, even if tapping into the Dark Side isn't required. It could be compared to using a nail gun (neutral tool) against someone's hand (not so neutral application).

I've always though it matters more "WHY" you use the power and what you use it "FOR" rather than WHICH power you use.

For example, if you use force lightening to re-power a dead generator in a crashing spaceship to save the crew, is it really a dark side power?

Or if you use it to disable an assassin droid?

Compare to using it to execute a taxi-driver.

Just food for thought.
