Okay I'm sure many fans loved Riptide, but I all but hated it. The book is nowhere near as good as Crosscurrent. The whole time travel thing in Crosscurrent was not needed IMO. Star Wars shouldn't have time travel anyway. I personally hate time travel. So now that thats out of the way I really enjoyed Crosscurrent after it explained the Hyperspace mishap or what have you, and ended with great potential for a second book. We have Riptide which to me seemed okay here and there until more of the Lightsaber phasing out technique took place. I mean the whole blocking the Force thing has always been around, but from what I have always known, you don't HAVE to be Force sensitive to wield a Lightsaber. I mean the Lighsaber still works regardless of being a Force sensitive. General Grievous comes to mind at the moment. Kemp could have gave the explanation that the Umbaran's powers that make lights flicker and short out have the same effect on Lightsabers. It seems to say that, but then he writes it as a Force issue too. This is horrible IMO. On to the next issue. I love the ancient Star Wars lore. Anything with the Celestials or Rakatans I LOVE. I really got excited when Jaden and crew found the old Station and conversed on Celestials and Rakatans. This led to another let down, why? Mother and the station beyond being Rakatan was not explained. What was Mother? An entity? A supercomputer's AI? An Essence Transferred Rakatan? What? I mean this part of the book just seemed to be thrown together. Now the whole issue with the Mind Spike and the Jaden Clone felt off. Marr was being selfish when he chose to resurrect Jaden . He holds the secret from Jaden. These things lead to the Dark Side. This book really gives no closure at all except that Soldier and Grace make it and their lives are free.
In short......pretty terrible book.
