If you haven't heard yet, this past weekend, The Dark Knight beat out the original Star Wars for the #2 spot on the all-time best domestic box office list. That's quite an accomplishment.

*something to note, this second article mentions inflation not being taken into account so have to wait and find out more there.

Yeah, I read that. If you take inflation into account, Dark Knight would have to make $900,000,000 to beat out Titanic, and considering how much longer ago Star Wars was, I'm very curious as to if it would actually be in the lead. Once inflation was taken into account. Sooo...I'm not too upset, seeing as the average ticket now is around $7, and that means that more people saw Star Wars. Ha! Very Happy

Edit: I have just done calculations. Okay, Star Wars in 1977, with an average ticket price of $3.50, saw 131,000,000 people. Titanic in 1997, with an average ticket price of $6, saw 100,000,000 people. And Dark Knight in 2008, with an average ticket price of $8 (I bumped it up), saw 59,000,000 people. So there! Star Wars still beats out everybody! Very Happy

I did read more of one of those articles and saw that the 1997 re-release of ANH had its sales added into that of the previous 1977 release...that may play a role in the calculations that you did. Smile
