Ah, if you are quite desperate, you can save your games indefinitely, no matter how many times you uninstall and reinstall the game. My sisters and I would play the game from one computer to the next and just cart our saved games around on a memory stick. Like even though my computer played the game better, KOTOR didn't like my Intel card and I couldn't get into the lower levels. So once I got to this point, I would transfer my game to my dad's computer and play it over there. His computer ran the game slow, though. So as soon as possible, I would transfer back to my computer. Hmm...does that makes any sense?
You might already know how to save the games, but just thought I'd throw that out there. If you're curious, just ask! 
Oh, this also allowed us to all the play the game at the same time, yet keep our personal games separate from one another, so as to not clutter up the 'load' and 'save' game folders.
