Favourite Book of 2011

Now that 2011 has come and gone and we're into the Mayan Death Year, it's time to ask what your favourite book of 2011 was.

My personal favourite was Riptide by Paul S. Kemp.

Choices of One. But I haven't read Ascension or Revan.

Technically I'd pick the Heir to the Empire 20th Anniversary Edition!

I'm surprised that Riptide is ahead of Choices of One, but on the other hand I guess I'm not. I think I've figured out what rubs me the wrong way about Crosscurrent and Riptide (which isn't to say I dislike them, I just don't think they're great): I think the focus is too narrow, and because of that, there's no mitigating that at the core of the story. And I don't find Jaden Korr's plight as interesting as, say, Jacen's. It's sort of a similar situation.

Ascension, but I haven't read Revan yet.

Knight Errant was my favorite. I liked Riptide alot, but Knight Errant had more to offer. I loved all the crazy Sith.

I only read two of these... Deceived and Riptide, but I went with the former. Kemp's work with Star Wars tends to be over-doing it in the first-grade verb department. ___ said... ___ went there and did that.

When reading a novel, those who are taking the time and spending the money want something that treats them as the reading level they hold. I'm just saying...

I nominate Conviction for funniest Star Wars book of 2011. When it comes to humor, Allston does a pretty good job.

Choices of One was my favorite. Probably the most tonally and thematically correct Star Wars novel since Shadows of Mindor.

Conviction was a surprisingly good read, though. After Vortex, I'd all but written off Fate of the Jedi. Allston managed to redeem the series by steering it away from the overly gritty, death dominated tone and putting out a fun adventure instead. I'm hoping there's more of that in the EU's future.
